Bio

Band on an island formed in 2003, originally founded by Ciaran Dwyer (vocals/guitar) and Robert Mockler (drums). The band liked the idea of writing songs about everyday life growing as a young person in their hometown of Newbridge; this became the driving force behind what BOAI is all about; truthful stories told through clever lyrics, wrapped in honest, passionate music.

The band's goal was very different to other bands, they looked at parts of life not really explored by other bands, and addressed strong issues closer to home rather than writing music about delusions of grandeur, approaching it with an honesty and humour not found in most bands today. Armed with a capo and only a handful of songs they took to 'the campfires' and honed their skills of writing by having song battles against one another. Then, out of the blue, their first gig loomed, a local singer songwriter night. With little or no practice, experience, or talent their first gig was a roaring success.

Enlisting the help of three close friends; Gavin Elsted (guitar), Robert Mockler (drums) and Andrew O'Donnell (bass), band on an island became more of a band. The band built up a small, but loyal, following of amazing fans, who really make every gig a success. Kind enough to lend their voices and energy at gigs, the fans push the band further and further, bringing them to places where none of them thought they would ever see.

In the past year alone BOAI have added over 40 gigs to their arsenal, and are known for their 'no holds barred' approach to performing at gigs. They've played their tunes to people all over Ireland and overseas; loving to sing their stories to anyone who'll listen. In 2005 the band grew by one member, Eimear Dempsey (violin), whom is no stranger to lending her talents on stage at past gigs, she completes the present line-up of the band as violinist.

Pace for the band shows no signs of slowing down as they go into the studio to record their debut album soon, and thus the story so far, the rest? to be continued, thanks for your time.
