Leeds Indie Radio Album Reviews, Featured

This is not just a bundle of tracks, this is a delight to listen to! Bang Bang Romeo show just what they are capable of by combining sounds and genres to create music that nobody should be deprived of.?

The first track of the EP, ‘Transparent’, is an elaborate medley of 90s Apoptygma Berzerk and the best of Bowie with a modern shade to it. It starts off with a synth pop filled melody and evolves into a head-banging track that eases the listener in to what Bang Bang Romeo is all about. My only criticism of the track would be that the chorus seems a bit weak for such a powerful song.

Next is the much more relaxing and soothing, yet darker, ‘Clouds’ which shows off the potent vocals of Ross Cameron and lead singer Anastasia Walker which have an XX vibe, whilst the dirty guitar riff does a good job at taking away some of the mellowness.

The third track ‘Crystal Miracle’ is a live recorded track that is a real treat! Bang Bang Romeo did good including this on the EP as it shows their potential on stage and their vibrant energy during a show! This tune with a late 70s / early 80s feel to it is a rock dancing anthem and damn it’s good!

The EP also includes two other treats; a DiscoStick mix of ‘Transparent’ and the acoustic ‘Just to see you run’ which is plain inspired.

Sexy electro-pop yet multi-genre Bang Bang Romeo are not to be missed! Great sound, blasting vocals, and nothing you’ve heard before, what else can anyone ask for?

With a disco back beat, a pulsing bass rumble and jerky guitar movements, they do a decent version of Ladyhawke mixing it up with Goldfrapp and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - UK MusicReview
"Absolute quality" -Simon Saynor Sine FM Doncaster

“Here’s one to look out for” Hallam FM Sheffield

"Heavy dance feel synths, heavy guitars, sweet and powerful vocals...the songs take you from synth pop to head banging crescendo...'Transparent' is a cracking EP!" Altass Reviews

" The bands 10 song set is electrifying....the band have a definite Muse feel, with spiralling guitars and bass lines that reverberate through your bones.....providing a heady rush from Ross's deep tones to the clear and powerful blast from Anastasia...whose stage presence is immense, more akin to Beyonce than Lady Ga Ga." - Burn Down The Disco

"Bang Bang Romeo have a frightfully good chance of making the big time" Sheffield Star

Bang Bang Romeo are a band I’ve seen in the past, and seem to have gotten even better since the last introduction to my ears. The female singer has the biggest pair of lungs I’ve seen in a while, powering their way through many exciting electro-pop songs, although the set wasn’t quite as long as I would have liked. If you haven’t seen these guys yet you need to, because this four-piece have the most immense stage presence, giving the audience something to shout about, and definitely one of my highlights.

Bang Bang Romeo’s debut EP, Little Love, starts off with Anastasia’s rather brilliant vocals blasting out the order to speak to me. She may only be young, but her vocals are mature and strong. The song begins proper with a little bit of dance and electronica, before the dirty guitars and bass lines kick in. Muse style synths whirl in the background of the track, giving the song an accomplished, polished finished. Produced to the highest standards, it doesn’t sound like most debut EP’s.
The EP offers a further three different versions of this rather fantastic song, from a completely stripped down acoustic version to an epic remix by the Utah Saints.

Bio

Bang Bang Romeo were formed when manager Keith Langley from Utah Saints met Ross Cameron and Anastasia Walker at the Doncaster Live Festival 2009. Since then Ben on guitar and Matt on drums have completed the mix to produce a huge live sound, and distinctive recordings. Centrepiece are Anastasia and Ross as two very different singers whose vocal styles work perfectly together. No-one walks away from a Bang Bang Romeo without remembering the "sweet, powerful, and often husky" quality of these two singers.
The first EP - Little Love (mixed by Utah Saints) - got great reviews, and DJ play from the Ukraine to Cardiff to Chicago. The video was aired on 4Music Whats Hot, and the second EP -Transparent - has also been received well. Bang Bang Romeo have had 5 songs played on regional BBC and commercial radio, and 3 songs used for the BBC 1 TV series Doctors. By the end of 2011 they will have played nearly 100 gigs including 6 regional Festivals. They have also performed live radio sessions at Sine FM, Sheffield LIve, and BBC Radio Leeds Introducing...
The next EP will include a collaboration with rapper Viper Vipes, and an album collection of songs produced by Jonny Mopez is planned for Autumn 2011.
