In 2004, Derek Hensinger and Derek DeBellis struck up a conversation in the Emmaus High School football locker room based upon the spelling of their first names … While a trivial matter, it led to the two of them engaging in deeper dialogue over time, prompting long discussions about their love for performing music. By that summer, they had begun jamming together in each other’s basements, leading to the inclusion of Mic DeBellis on percussion. The trio originally played cover songs from their favorite influences under the band name “The Long Haul.” About two years later, they began writing their own songs influenced by a myriad of musical genres, changed their band name to “Bang Diesel Express,” and subsequently recorded their first EP “Bang Diesel Expressions” in early 2010. Along the way, they worked with several local musicians to expand upon their sound, including Sean Martorelli, Ryan Allen, Matt Berger, Ryan O'Donnell and Caitlin Nallo. Over the years, Bang Diesel Express has played shows throughout the Lehigh Valley, from charity events, backyard BBQs, frat parties and acoustic coffee house gigs. In 2011, the group consolidated back into their original line-up of Derek, Derek, and Mic for their first full-length album release, “Death by Misadventure,” an eclectic, yet cohesive mix of songs that chronicle the bands maturation and development over the course of their musical career. They are in the middle of transitioning north to Albany, NY and Burlington, VT, with a goal of never letting the music get stagnant. One member job hunting, one a doctoral student, and the other in graphic design.
