Bio
The Bellows are Laura McGuire (accordion and vocals), Esther Wheaton (banjo and vocals), Jeremy Bernard (percussions), and a rotating cast of friends and comrades filling in on bass, guitar, vocals, and piano.
Esther and Laura met at music school, but it wasn't until they had graduated and were working full time in arts administration that they bonded over a mutual love of basement pubs, ridiculous humour, and drowning their sorrows. Both classically trained musicians and composers, they threw their years of education to the wind and traded in piano sonatas for accordion polkas, the oboe for the banjo.
In October, 2011 they spent 3 hours recording a demo and traveled across Canada and back as a part of VIA Rail's On-Board Musician program. Upon their return, they decided Banjo and the Bellows was going to be "a thing" and started playing on the street and at local venues and house concerts.
The Bellows play folk music of all kinds from murder ballads to "the Blues". Their high-energy live shows bring a stage full of talented musicians and laughter.
