Banks the Genius – Elevator
Piano, old fashioned dialogue samples? That's all I needed to hear. Add some spaced-out drums and plenty of bass, and it's something that I can't stop spinning. This is the final track on the Banks the Genius' newest EP, Just Because. - Mishka NYC
“And I promise, yeah I promise, I’ll never stop it, even if I’m not shit,
and I promise, yeah I promise, yeah I promise, I promise, mama I got…this.”
So the wait is finally over. You came to the right place. Chicago’s BanksTheGenius just dropped his official single for his 2nd upcoming full-length project entitled “#TheTide“. I got a chance to chop it up with Banks via email and I asked him if he were to describe the overall feelings he has about the single, and where he’s at mentally…he sent back this:
“A little over a year ago I was faced with my biggest challenge in life thus far. The unexpected loss of my mother took its tole on me for the worst. She wasn’t just my mom, but also my best friend, biggest supporter, and someone who always pushed me to pursue music. Whether it was buying my first guitar as a kid, or constantly promoting ‘banksthegenius‘ to anyone she met. She always believed in me, and after she passed I stopped believing in myself. Maybe it was the hopelessness, or the lack of motivation, but either way I’ve come to realize these situations in life are a test. Do you give up? Or do you persevere and overcome your demons? The point I’m trying to make is, that no matter what you’re going through, or have been through, it’s up to you to make the best of the situation and continue to follow your path. Never deviate, always move forward, and be the absolute best that you can be. You’re the only person who can prevent yourself from achieving greatness. Without my mother I wouldn’t be where I am today, and everything I do from here on out is a testament to that…. I hope this track sheds a little insight on my journey over the last year, and that despite my situation, some of you can relate.” -(Banks)
You’re going to play this twice to catch the lyrical realness of this cat. Somewhere far faar away from “Bulls in ’93“, but also a level higher at the same time. One thing I think we all appreciate is watching the growth of any artist. To all old fans will say “damn, mad respect on this“, & all new fans will search back and say “damn, mad respect on a change“. Props go out to OneTwoKno for the production. Salute 2 ya homie cause I vibe with this beat so hard. But I’m done tho. hit play. you’ll like this. #TheTide comin soon..THE LAND DON’T LIE. - Its The Land
