Bio

The cry of Banshee was heard for the first time on 23rd October Anno Domini 2004. On that very day our first concert was held and that very day we consider to be the official date our band came into being.

Our understanding of celtic music lies in combination of traditional sounds of the Celts with modern arrangements and strong rhythmic base. We dance to reels and jigs, cry to heart-breaking ballads, but also want to go further, want synergy of styles, want diversity in our music which is at the same time based on Irish, Scottish and Breton instrumentarium and stylistics. To put it simply: the new is coming.

The goal is to find the way under people's roofs; people who consider music an important part of their lives but also those who look for its tranquility only from time to time. We want to raise the bar as high as possible, with no fixed limits, to have it motivate us to even more intensive work. We believe we can tear off the label of "niche music" from our sound and make it for the top not only in Poland but be heard around the world, as well. People we meet at our concerts and all those we share our thoughts with let us believe that it is within reach.

We put much energy and commitment in what you know as "Banshee". The pursuit of music is not our only way to feel accomplished but it's exactly the music that let us free the energy. It is freed at the concerts, along with all the effort we put in creating it, all the hopes and dreams we want to share with you. But no big words are needed here because it's simply all about having a great deal of fun and being passionate about it.

At the beginning of our journey we performed some small-scale concerts, often charity ones, just for the sake and pleasure of playing. We performed for example at a photo exhibition in the Popper Synagogue or in the Cracow Philharmonic Hall in a music programme for kindergarten children. We started our second year with a performance during “Wielka Orkiestra ¦wi±tecnej Pomocy” (an all-Poland Christmas charity enterprise) and we decided to take part in this noble event every year.

An import ant part of our activity is obviously playing in pubs. The satisfaction we get of it is a result of the fantastic contact with the audience and the joy we share. Our big stage performances were inaugurated by the concert in May 2005 at the wonderful B³onia in Kraków (a kind of meadow near the city centre; our own Hyde Park or Central Park, if you like). Then there was the summer and Miêdzybrodzie Bialskie – our first tour. Around that time we recorded our first demo CD where we placed five arrangements of some more and less popular pieces of Celtic culture music.

Among Irish plains and Scottish hills there are many dormant mysteries, waiting to be awaken from their slumber. A simple melody suddenly reveals its hidden, irresistible complexity. Nowadays, artists can express themselves not only through eccentric sounds but also through searching for old thruths in old songs, which can then be used as the base for composing tunes close to modern man's thoughs and feelings. During our journeys of music we encounter over and over again a new beauty sunken in an amber shelter. We strive to uncover it - for your pleasure and our sake.
