Bio

Have you ever been called "too black" or "not black enough"? Have you ever befriended or worked with a black person? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Baratunde Thurston is the speaker for you! Baratunde’s a technology-loving comedian whose book How to Be Black is a narrative on identity and the Black experience in the 21st century. With an ancestry that includes a great-grandfather who taught himself to read, a grandmother who was the first black employee at the U.S. Supreme Court building, and a mother who took over radio stations in the name of the black liberation struggle, Baratunde has long been taught to question authority. Baratunde’s talk is a topical and witty look at race and identity in America. Baratunde served as Director of Digital for The Onion (2007 – 2012) and has been featured in the NY York Times, Vanity Fair, CNN, MSNBC, and NPR
