(translated review of "Always a Bridesmaid")

Retrieved from Chicago, Illinois is The Bare Hand Jugband. An occasional mess that sultry, oldtimey jugmuziek produce.

The debut CD "Always a bridesmaid" was recorded live in the studio and this is also one of the strengths of this album. You hear no tension or nerves to make everything as perfect as possible sound. Self Written numbers combined with old standards like Drunken Sailor/500 miles, which combined with the banjo, fiddle, mandolin, kazoo, steel guitar, washboard, harmonica and jug is already a feast in itself.

The musicians will perform their duties and no moments of mirth and music blasting from the ultimate pleasure, what this CD again beastly fun and attractive.

The tempo with a dominant banjo remains a small constant high with 45 minutes Second Best and complete the final climax (we're not the purple, not the worst, but the second best in town Jugband).

The only downside is the visual aspect of the whole.

You hear everything happening in the studio, there will be some laughter and that the listener does not get along.

We remain at a distance.

This is a bridge between the tire and beaten muziekferventen, which in itself is a shame. Yet "Always A Bridesmaid" by The Bare Hand Jugband an amusing, enjoyable listen incidental pressure in that bleak, barren, financial circumstances. - altcountryforum.nl

Bio

The Barehand Jugband is a six-member, Chicago-based band that combines jug-band blues and old-time country with a high-energy, dance-inducing result. The beat-thumping rhythm section, which includes a home-made one-string bass and drum-set and an authentic antique jug, is complimented by a new-music-oriented horn section, and traditional string instruments.

Whether performing as an opening act for national touring bands, ranging from Jim Kweskin and Geoff Muldaur to Split Lip Rayfield, or headlining their own bill; the jugband raises the ruckus for every crowd.

Don’t miss a chance to see the Barehand Jugband live.
