Bio

Barium is an Akron, Ohio based band falling somewhere in the progressive, hard-rock genre. The band concept was formed in July of 2001, when Josh and Dan ran into each other at a pre-Ozzfest party. Both had elements of bands already together but were missing the parts the other offered. Discounting the idea as drunk talk, the plan was disregarded until September of 2001 when the two met up again at the Vans Warped Tour and decided to put the plan in motion. Dan was writing material with Jon Williams and had been together for many years in the bands Fat Cat Suite and Epsteins Mom. Josh (ex-Lower G.I / WHAM) was currently writing with guitarist, Filiberto Trocchio (ex-City Chicken) and bassist, Brent McDowell (ex-Disengage). The five-piece brought their material together and began regular writing sessions. Unfortunately, work constraints resulted in Filiberto having to leave the band only a few months into the project. Jon, Josh, Dan and Brent continued on and played a handful of shows until May of 2002 when Brent left the band to relocate to the sunny weather of Las Vegas, Nevada. Now without a bassist, the band began to question the future of Barium as they went several months unable to find a replacement. Jon suggested calling Pat Hill, the former bassist of Fat Cat Suite. The guys agreed and invited Pat to a casual jam session. Pat came in, quickly learned the material and was offered the position, which he gladly accepted. The band was finally set and ready to progress. Barium started playing shows again in November of 2002 and has steadily built a solid fan base in and around the Akron area. In January of 2004, Nick joined the band bringing his blues and classic rock background to the mix. The addition of Nicks guitar brings added depth and texture to Bariums live performance. In May of 2003, Barium entered Grooveyard Studios in Akron to begin the recording of their first CD. With the initial guidance of engineer Shawn Hackel(Kona Lee), production was underway. Shawn was unable to make a recording session one afternoon and invited Matt(The Lephracon)Cleary to sit in on the engineering. The chemistry was instant and the band, along with Shawn, decided to offer the project to Matt. Matt enthusiastically accepted the project and eventually took on the added role as producer, offering a tremendous amount of his creative influence. With Matt at the helm, the band accomplished their goal of creating a powerful and dynamic album. The album, titled Periodicals, was released November 24th, 2004 and has been very well received.
