Bio

Born and raised in Copiah County on the southern region of Mississippi, Barr Briggs has always had a interest in music. At the young age of 5, Kendrick Benson imitated his favorite artist Michael Jackson for family members and friends. At the age of 10, Kendrick formed a gospel group with other family members called “The Benson Singers” who sang at numerous churches spreading the word of the Lord through spiritual singing. At 13, Kendrick lost his beloved mother to a massive heart attack which forced him to grow up faster. Through this tragedy Kendrick started to really explore his talent of writing music. After moving with his father, he began to learn where he got his interest and talent in music. Kendrick discovered that his father had a beautiful voice and was a part of a gospel group. Mr. John Briggs explained the gift of their talent to young Kendrick and talked to him about declining a record deal back in the 1950’s due to serious family issues. Kendrick started to believe that he was talented enough to achieve his dream of becoming a major artist. After multiple talent shows and numerous gospel concerts, Kendrick meet best friend Kelvin “KC” Williams in 1998. KC Williams was noticed by everyone as being a great poet. KC began to encourage Kendrick to write more but in a different way. After hearing about a local studio opening up in Crystal Springs, MS which was Kendrick and KC’s home town at the time, KC approached one of the owners about his friend that could really sing! KC introduced Earnest “BEE” Brown to Kendrick, the rest is history. Since 2002, Earnest and Kendrick have been inseparable. Earnest knew and believed in Kendrick’s talent, so he IMMEDIATELY put Kendrick in the studio to see what response he would get locally. From this experience came Barr Briggs hit Southern Soul single “Heart Aches.” . The son of Earnest best friend was a great producer and Earnest just knew that he had to get Barr Briggs to him immediately. The producer was Lakaz of trio production team called “The Chemist”. Following “Heart Aches” was “Broken Heart Road” and the number one hit that everyone loves to see Barr Briggs perform “LIAR”. Neither knew these songs would become so popular locally nor in the Southern Region. Needing help with exposure, Earnest contacted a long time friend up north who began to sell Barr Briggs freshman album “Medicine Music” like they never thought! Performing at shows locally and selling over 5,000 copies of Medicine Music underground gave Kendrick the confidence that he does have what it takes to be a mainstream artist Barr Briggs and Lakaz had great chemistry together and have been recording together every since 2005. Lakaz of the group “The Chemist” have since been signed to “WE THE BEST MUSIC” of Def Jam, so this solidifies Barr Briggs will keep giving his fans the best music. Lakaz has produced the entire sophomore album called “Sound Language” that will be released in August 2010. Barr Briggs will continue to make more music that his fans can relate too and hopefully gain some attention to major recording labels. Until then, Barr Briggs of Nuevo Entertainment will continue to please his fans underground and enjoy the love that he receives from his fans.
