Bio

Born the son of a Southern Baptist Minister the music of Barrett Baber began at an Early age.
As with many artists from the South a "never miss" approach to church attendance
created and environment in which music was ever present. "Both my parents were
musically inclined and being the preacher's kid I was involved in everything, and that included church music." Baber recalls. One afternoon while hanging out in his older brothers dorm room at Ouachita Baptist University Barrett picked up his brothers guitar.
After a quick tutorial Baber took to the instrument naturally and began writing songs almost immediately.
in 2002 Baber recorded "Songs Of The Broken Hearted", his first independent release.
Not long after the release Baber left school and moved to Nashville Tennesee where he began learning as much as he could about the art of song writing. "I hooked up with a talented writer from Arkansas named Danny Tate and he spent a lot of time showing me the true art that is writing great music." says Baber. "I learned so much from Danny that year, it was one of the most difficult and most rewarding learning experiences I've ever had."
In 2003 Barrett auditioned for the hit TV show American Idol, making it to the top 48 in Season 2. "American Idol was also a good experience for me, it allowed me to see where I stacked up against some of the most talented people in the nation" says Baber.
Shortly after his American Idol auditions Baber moved back to Arkansas where he
continued to hone his craft living just across the mightily mississippi River from Memphis Tennesee and making nightly trips into the blues capital of the world to perform. "I think my time performing in memphis really shaped my style. Being around so much talent, so much diversity. It was and still is one of my favorite places to be". In 2004 Baber began writing and recording songs for his sophomore release called "Fratbar Superstar". Recording on the project was completed in May of that year and when released the record was an instant hit amongst the college crowd in Arkansas. Barrett spent the next several years playing endless shows in college towns across the mid- south
With a catelog of new songs, Barrett started recording his latest project "Guys Like Me" in the fall of 2008. Harping back to his early days, the record is completely acoustic and focuses on the powerful vocals and sharp lyrics that have come to define the "sound" of Barrett Baber. "I'm really proud of Guys Like Me. Instead of forcing out radio friendly songs, I just let myself write what felt good, it was refreshing and my hope is that my fans will be able to feel that when they listen to it" says Baber. Like "Fratbar Superstar", "Guys Like Me" has been well received by the crowds who are entertained by Barrett wherever he plays. Songs like "Guys Like Me", "Prisoner Worship at the Stone Co. Jail" and "God Damn You Sallie Mae" strike a chord with audiences across the the mid south in hazy bar-rooms and auditoriums alike.
"I have a passion for creating good art through songwriting, and another passion for creating happiness in people through the art of performance. When the two are combined I am as content as I'll ever be." From Baptist Church kid to bar room
entertainer, it is Barrett Baber's thirst to continue to create "good art" that keeps listeners coming back, and keeps him ever busy.searching for that perfect rhyme to go along with that timeless melody.
