Biography

Time for a pop quiz: add up the following:

Performances in venues ranging from intimate songwriter rooms and jazz clubs to cathedrals and concert halls in Europe; writer of singing telegrams; critically acclaimed composer of film soundtracks; talent booker at a prestigious listening room; songwriter’s deal with a major publisher; and a voice that’s a throwback to another era.

What do you get? Barry Goold.

Raised in Montreal the son of a preacher, his talents led him through the Music Composition program at Concordia University on full scholarship. He graduated at the top of the class.

While in college, Barry recorded several songs under the guidance of Ben Kaye (now co-manager of Celine Dion), which were released in Canada.

He toured Europe as a member of a professional Baroque vocal ensemble, taught elementary school music and wrote singing telegrams, all while performing in jazz, folk and pop clubs. Daily Variety mentioned his score for the Canadian film “Eva: Guerillera as one of the film’s highlights.

After winning a Green Card in the lottery, he was drawn to Nashville, where he first landed a job screening new talent and booking performers at the renowned performance club “The Bluebird Café. Later, in addition to running a small music marketing company, he managed to secure a handshake deal with MCA Music Publishing. When that deal ended, he followed his childhood dream and moved to Los Angeles.

After working with music supervisors and writing songs for various feature films that rarely made a film’s final cut (including “Stuart Little 2, “Undercover Brother, “Dramarama and “Desperate Housewives), Barry decided to record a CD of songs he felt personally passionate about. That CD, “Knockin’ On Another Door, was recorded in Nashville with A-list session musicians and award-winning producer Wayne Haun at the end of December. It is currently being mixed and mastered, and will be released independently in April 2008. As an openly gay singer and experienced songwriter, his new album offers songs with style, substance and themes that speak to every one.

Lyrics

Walking and Running

Written By: Barry Goold

DIDN’T WANT TO GO TO BED
I NEEDED TIME TO CLEAR MY HEAD
SO WEST IN HOLLYWOOD I WENT
WALKING AND RUNNING
I STOPPED AT MICKY’S FOR A DRINK
THE WAITRESS WAS A MAN I THINK
SHE SAID MY FEET ARE KILLING ME
WALKING AND RUNNING BEHIND

EVERYBODY’S IN A RUSH
PASSING BUT NOT CATCHING UP
TIME’S A TRAIN AND WE’RE ALL ON THE BUS

I ORDERED UP ANOTHER ROUND
THE ROOM WAS SORT OF SPINNING NOW
I FINALLY MADE MYSELF SIT DOWN
WALKING AND RUNNING
I TOLD THE WAITRESS I’D BEEN DUMPED
SHE SAID IT’S ONE SAD FACT OF LOVE
THE ONES WE LOVE MAY NOT LOVE US
WALKING AND RUNNING BEHIND

CHORUS

FASTER AND FASTER WHAT WE’RE RUNNING AFTER IS LOVE

DRINKING MAKES ME PARANOID
THERE’S SOME THINGS I SHOULD AVOID
LIKE MEN WHO ACT LIKE LITTLE BOYS
WALKING AND RUNNING
WELL HERE IS WHERE MY STORY ENDS
I HOPE I DON’T GET DUMPED AGAIN
BUT IF I DO I’VE GOT THESE FRIENDS
WALKING AND RUNNING BEHIND

CHORUS

EVERYBODY’S IN A RUSH
PASSING BUT NOT CATCHING UP
TIME’S A PLANE AND WE’RE STILL ON THE BUS

I Still Remember

Written By: Barry Goold

I STILL REMEMBER THE WAY THAT YOU WERE
BEFORE YOU GOT JADED AND HURT
I’D THINK ABOUT CALLING AND PICK UP THE PHONE
BEFORE IT COULD RING THERE YOU WERE

AND YOU LOVED MADONNA AND INTO THE GROOVE
BUT BOY YOU HAD NOTHING TO PROVE
AND DAVID WAS KRYSTAL, THEN KRYSTAL CARESS
BUT TO ME YOU ARE MOLE AND YOUTH
THAT WAS LONG AGO AND SO FAR AWAY
BUT I’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT DAY
AND I HOPE I SEE DAVID AGAIN

DAVID THE SECOND WAS ALREADY ILL
WITH COCKTAILS OF CAPSULES AND PILLS
OXYGEN TANK IN YOUR BEDROOM KEPT CLOSE
YOUR LOFT MOSTLY QUIET AND STILL

N.Y.U. PROF YOU WERE SMARTER THAN MOST
YOU QUOTED OBSCURE BROADWAY SHOWS
THERE IN THE HOSPITAL I HELD YOUR HAND
AND YOU SAID THANK YOU FOR COMING THIS CLOSE
THAT WAS LONG AGO AND SO FAR AWAY
BUT I’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT DAY
AND I HOPE I SEE DAVID AGAIN

I STILL REMEMBER WHEN I GOT THE CALL
THAT SAID BOB WAS SUDDENLY GONE
YOU DIDN’T TELL ANYONE, LEAST OF ALL ME
ALONE AT THE END, WERE YOU STRONG?

I GUESS YOU WERE CERTAIN, YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW BEST
YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE SAVING US PAIN
IF I HAD THE CHANCE I’D HAVE SAID TO YOUR FACE
YOU WERE SELFISH AND FOOLISH AND WRONG
THAT WAS LONG AGO AND SO FAR AWAY
BUT I’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT DAY
AND I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE BOB AGAIN

I STILL REMEMBER YOU, ALL OF MY FRIENDS

Low and Going Down

Written By: Barry Goold

WOKE UP FACE DOWN IN A PILE OF LAUNDRY
I DON’T KNOW HOW I EVEN GOT TO THIS PLACE
THE LAST THING I KNOW I REMEMBER
WAS HEADING FROM THE BEDROOM WAS IT HOURS OR DAYS?
CRAWLING ON THE KITCHEN TILE IT
LOOKS LIKE I MIGHT BE A WHILE

I’M LOW AND GOING DOWN. I’M LOW
I’M ONLY ROLLING HERE ON THE GROUND, I’M LOW
I’M FALLING FAST, RECOVER SLOW,
I HATE TO SAY IT BUT DON’T YOU KNOW
I’M LOW AND GOING DOWN
I’M LOW AND GOING DOWN

THIS ROLLER COASTER DRIVES ME CRAZY
IT’S UP ONE MINUTE THEN I’M DIVING THE NEXT
YOU’D THINK BY NOW IT WOULDN’T FAZE ME
BUT WHAT IF THIS IS JUST AS GOOD AS IT GETS?
GIVE ME SOMETHING SWEET AND STICKY
OR YOU’LL HEAR ME TELL YOU THIS

CHORUS

CHEMISTRY IS A FUNNY THING
THE MORE YOU GIVE ME THE MORE I NEED
YOU MIGHT NOTICE BEFORE I KNOW IT
YOU MIGHT SEE WHAT I CAN’T SEE

CHORUS
