Bio
He has been called “Silky Smooth”, “Diamond Barry”, and more recently “BJ Smooth” by his peers. Whatever nickname you use, Barry J. is known for dynamic and energetic tenor vocal tones. Don’t let his quiet and serene demeanor fool you; when he is on stage, he is a crowd pleaser and knows how to get the party started. Barry J's ability to heighten or soften the mood of a room serves well in all entertainment environments.
Currently residing in Temecula, CA, Barry J. performs in local venues with a 4pc band. Venues include establishments such as Pala Casino’s Amigo’s Restaurant, Pala Casino’s Center Bar, The Edge Restaurant and Lounge, Da Bayou Restaurant, Simply Sharon’s Restaurant, The Wine Company, and Viva Vino’s Wine Bar. Also, other SoCal venues include Huntington Beach’s Avec Nightclub, and San Diego’s Greek Palace with the vocal group “Chosen”.
Barry J’s music career started in the Pacific Northwest in Portland OR with the group Bedroc’. Touring Washington, Oregon, and Northern California via Pacific Talent Agency, the early 1990’s gained the young vocalist crucial performance experience.
Gaining notoriety locally, in 2000, Barry was asked to join the already established band, “Ocean 503”. This was a 5 piece band that originally sported a female vocal front with a standard rhythm section, and keys. With the addition of Barry J, the new male/female combination quickly propelled into one of the hottest bands in the Portland Metro area. They soon became regulars on the renowned Seattle music scene as well. Ocean 503 was selected to perform at the 2002 Winter Olympic Torch Lighting Relay Ceremonies, which ran through all 50 states. This event was held at downtown Portland’s Pioneer Square in the presence of 1500 plus people.
2004 brought a move to Southern California, where after another hiatus, Barry answered the bell with Silk N Soul in 2006. Based out of Riverside County, Barry was again the front man for a 5 piece band performing at venues like B.B. Kings at Universal Studio’s City Walk, among others.
