Favrillio's Lament

Favrillio’s Lament

© 1987 – Barry Stranahan

Hello mom, hello dad, I’m in jail but don’t be mad,
some peculiar circumstances made a victim out of me
and I don’t like this cell so well, I rather would be free.

Hello ma, hello pa, yeah I’m locked up in the old hoosegaw.
They raided Fanny Belle’s Hotel and by some fateful chance,
thought I was with the others, could you bring a pair of pants?

Hello moms, hello pops, call your lawyer to call the cops,
I don’t want no record, ‘cause I couldn’t get no work,
except to boogie on down to the corner drugstore and be a soda jerk.
(gotta boogie down now … ) Short Break

Hello folks, its no joke, bail is high and I’m flat broke.
I know I’ve been recalcitrant, that’s something you can’t stand,
but if you fish me out once more, I’ll join the high school band.

Hello mom, hello dad, I’m in jail ‘cause I’ve been bad,
but I’ll repent my vices, just you wait and see,
I can feel that family spirit growing strong in me.

Hello ma, hello pa, hello mom, hello dad,
hello moms and hello pops, please don’t leave me with the cops.

Who are you talking to, there’s no one in this room,
except for Chester Drawers there, and JC Penney Broom?
Oh and here comes Mr. Martin, to play a little tune,
to see if we all can’t bring one crazy man back from the moon.

Now Riff and Raff they make me laugh, when they get room to move,
especially Riff who has a gift, for gettin’ in the groove.
But now they say, “hey we can’t stay, we got business with a friend”.
And you wonder why I wonder if it’s ever going to end.

But who are you tellin’ this to, there’s no one I can see,
except for gloomy Spider Webster there and skinny Mr. Key?
Oh and here comes Buddy Wurlitzer saying: “now the time to flee”.
But was he talkin’ to himself or was he trying to speak to me?
(I just don’t know).

Now I suppose that no one knows where time goes when it’s gone,
as well as how the zone you’re in affects the time you’re on.
But I’m still here, have no fear, and I’m happy still to be.
It’s just in crowds this size sometimes it’s hard, to tell which one is me.

But who are you talking to, there’s no one in this room,
except for Chester Drawers there, and JC Penney Broom?
Oh and here comes Mr. Martin, to play a little tune,
to see if we all can’t bring one crazy man back from the moon.
