Bio

Basement Upstairs is a collective group of four hip-hop m.c.’s hailing out of Kentucky’s Capital City, Frankfort. The group’s name and meaning were derived from their early recording history, which started in a home basement studio and was later moved to an attic. The name is also a metaphor to signify a person(s) rise from the “bottom to the top” in life situations. It is those stories of struggle and triumph along with a shared interest in music that brought the four and their talents together nearly 10 years ago.

The group released their first official album “Feel Good Music” regionally, in September, 2006. This album was a formal introduction to the Basement Upstairs brand name, filled with a variety of topics from “world issues” to “a night out at the club.” With this album, the group was able to establish an awareness of hip-hop artist(s) on the Frankfort music scene, a scene which had been exposed to very little of the musical genre performed on a local level in years prior. This led to the group getting numerous show opportunities not only the locally, but regionally in Kentucky cities such as Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green. In addition, their music has also allowed them to perform in out of state locations such as Indiana and West Virginia. A new venture for the Basement arose, when the group recorded a track used for a television commercial ran locally, for the Frankfort based car accessories store Ky. Pro-Tints. Following off that, they’ve since recorded music used in locally aired commercials for the rebroadcasting of local high school football and basketball games on Frankfort’s Cable 10 television station. Nationally, their music was also featured on Fox Sports Radio personality, J.T. the Brick’s weeknight show, as part of his “Myspace Monday” music segment.

The future of the Basement Upstairs is one of hopeful promise, in which the group will continue their current trek of recording, performing, and self-promotion in order to spread their sound to a larger audience. Currently, the group is working on a follow up album to “Feel Good Music” which they’re planning to release in April, 2009.
