Basic Space

.............DEAD CITY PRESS............That band was Basic Space. A group of talented young musicians, who are busting out onto the Dead City scene. For a relatively new band, they really seemed to have their shit together. Their mellow grooves and tight beats enthralled my ears and their showmanship kept me wide eyed. At one point the lead singer and guitarist(Mike) actually grabbed some sticks and joined the drummer for what I can only assume would be called a drum duet. It was exceedingly memorable and I know will be stuck in my head for quite some time. They were handing out some cds at the end of the show and I just had to get my hands on one. A single listen and I was hooked to their alleviating sound. Sadly, its only a 3 track disc, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these guys keep going, cause their alt rock sound is something I could really get used to in my music collection. In speaking with Neil, the drummer, later on I was shocked to find out it was in fact their first live show, and the guys had only been jamming together and writing music as Basic Space since this past October. So now that I think about it, the fact they even had cds to give away is impressive (and i thank you fellas!). Could it be because two of the boys are brothers that helped push this band so far so quick? Kevin who plays keyboard and guitar is the elder brother of Neil. But in my opinion its the expertise and chemistry of these four guys that deliver the goods. With Mikes amazing voice, Lawrences oh so sick basslines, and of course the talented brothers- my only guess is if these guys continue down the path I think they're headed on it wont be long before another local band makes it big!
