"Black Hills Heritage Festival adds extra day to celebration"

Festival-goers can choose from a diverse variety of activities throughout the four-day celebration, including Middle Eastern music groups, booths and vendors, and the Roo Ranch show. Most people will find something to do or see.

Activities for children include face painting, tossing water balloons, jousting and a show by the Roo Ranch.

The children's activities will be between the main stage and the food vendors.

Bands, located on the main stage, will be playing throughout the afternoons and evenings with genres including rap, country western, gospel (on Sunday) and rock 'n' roll. Other tribute bands will perform music by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

An acoustic stage will be set up by the food vendors.

Margaritas and a variety of South Dakota wines are new to the beer tent and garden, which will be an open area by the main stage.

A service will be provided to give people a safe ride home by asking in the main tent.

Heritage Festival president Steve Dary said there will be more activities, and people should come check them all out. Dary noted that the festival is free through donations and sponsorships.

"Kansas music fest growing"

WINFIELD, Kan. - I attended both of the "Just Plain Folks" showcases at Knight's Cellar in Spearfish on Sept. 8 and at The Road House in Rapid City on Sept 9. Eighteen Black Hills acts played in Spearfish, and 27 played in Rapid City.

I hope Brian Austin Whitney, the Just Plain Folks guru, was suitably impressed. I was
It is unfair to all the other acts to single out one, but I must give a nod to Rapid City rapper K.O.D. I didn't know Rapid City had a rapper. He's a good one. If there is one, there must be others - Rapid City Journal

"Local rapper to host hip-hop workshop"

Rolle to the Fullest.”

That initial success led to major-label interest, a spot on the

Billboard charts and slots opening for Afroman, 2 Live Crew,

Tone-Loc and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

Now, KOD is getting his second album ready and has landed a

sponsorship deal with rapper Lil Jon’s Crunk Energy Drink. That

sponsorship has allowed KOD to build his street team of 25 people up

to more than 75.

But beyond the continuing flirtations with fame, the local rapper,

whose name is Andre Truitt, is finding ways to give back to the

community that has embraced his music.

And he’s starting by putting on a hip-hop workshop for kids at the

Rapid City Public Library. During the two-hour workshop, KOD will

cover writing, performing and marketing.

“It’s open to all ages, but it’s mostly geared toward the kids,” he

said. “I’ll be talking about how I got into the music business.”

The workshop will also have time for the kids to write some lyrics

themselves.

"Kids Fair for kids"

Last weekend's Eighth Annual Kids Fair raises money for Youth & Family Services' youth programs by offering fun things for kids to do. More than 60 businesses and organizations hosted booths at the three-day fair, with the emphasis on providing hands-on activities, shows or give-aways just for kids. Featured booths included pony rides, petting zoo, inflated castle and slide, mini-train, rock wall, animals from Reptile Gardens, and a Humvee from the South Dakota National Guard.

Also at the fair were children's entertainers Phil Baker, the Ronald McDonald Magic Show, "The Ugly Duckling" performed by the Garfield Players, the Hot Shot Dancers, Karuz Rythm Team and hip hop artist K.O.D.

The Kids Fair keeps growing every year, and raises more than $20,000 for Youth & Family Services. YFS is a United Way agency with programs that reach 8,500 children in western South Dakota. It sponsors Girls Incorporated of Rapid City, Western Prevention Resource Center, Nutrition Services, Head Start, a counseling center, child care and Teaching SMART. YFS maintains six facilities in Rapid City and Ellsworth Air Force Base - Rapid city Journal

Bio

This info is what I've done up to becoming B.A. Soulja. B.A. Soulja, formerly known as K.O.D. , grew up in small town just outside Atlanta Ga. He was rasied up in the projects by a single mother with 4 other sons. With the odds stacked against him, he was sure to become one of society’s statistics. With a mom’s determination not to let that happen, she encouraged him to write down his feelings to escape the streets. This soon turned into hip hop lyrics on paper. The beginning of K.O.D. was born. The fresh style of his music is his own just as Nelly’s style was, with that country type grammar that made him unique. His music has been compared to L.L. Cool J, with the passion and feeling of Tu-pac, with a rowdy upbeat stage performance of David Banner. With a clean no vulgar language type style, his music appeals to young and old people alike! In 2003, Hot 93.1 was eager to air his first single Hear My Cry, and see the local’s response. Against major artists it reached the #1 spot on the 9@9 and held that spot 3 weeks. Due to the high response from the listeners, K.O.D. released his Cd single in 2004. He sold more than 600 copies the first month, city wide in a town of 60,000+!! The demand for K.O.D. music became the new hype in Rapid City. This opened many doors which included performances for semi-pro football teams, opening for acts such as Universal Records artist Afroman and others. Hear My Cry also made it on Billboards D.M.A. top 200 singles chart for the week of August 2004. The song was listed at #12 out of 200 singles. In early 2005, K.O.D. released the album Rolle’ To The Fullest and it went on to sell 500 copies!! At this current time he has sold 3,000 to date in store and out of the trunk. In the summer of 2005, he had a part in an independent film called Salem Park 3:15. Rolle’ To The Fullest was on the sound track for the film. He didn’t release an album in 2006, but stayed busy doing shows and opening up for acts such as 2-Live crew, Tone-Loc, and Bone Thugs. In the summer 2007 he opened up for Lil Jon at the Sturgis Rally in Stugis, SD, which put K.O.D. in contact with Jon and the owners of Crunk Energy Drink. This is where he got his 1st sponsorship deal. In 2008, K.O.D. opened up for Bubba Sparxx’s. This is a concert he organized an promoted himself. In Jan 2009, The Blackhills Takeover mixCD was independently released. And with no stores pushing it or Radio promotions, he has sold 400 copies on tha streets! In aug 2009, he opened up for the Ying Yang twins at the Full throttle saloon in Sturgis, SD. This event was nationally televised on Tru-Tv. K.O.D. is helping out with Charities, fund-raises, and church functions also. He was on the first team that started the upward basketball program. He also started a hip hop workshop for kids in South Dakota. 2009, is the second year of the workshop. He started the out reach to show kids a diffrent way to express themselves. K.O.D. is a leader who hungers to be more than the average rapper.
