That was a great set at The Horseshoe. Embracing a combination of indie with jam-rock with a bluesy sensibility, Bastard Sunshine's guitar-riffage, grooves, and upbeat energy is a big part of their 90's inspired charm. Keep to your musical vision. - Lonely Vagabond

Bio
Bastard Sunshine is a four-piece bluesy jam-rock band hailing from Toronto, ON... and a few other places around the globe. See, lead singer Dylan Reisch (who also plays astonishing rhythm guitar, I mean really, wow) came up from down under with a mission to make music, and along the way met with Alex Wong (formerly Hong Kong`s biggest and baddest bass line exporter). They, in turn, were contacted by Alex Merrick (a charming and handsome drum-machine living inside a rather ordinary man's head) and he convinced Nick Topfer (some kind of spawn of metal and jazz) that these weird ex-pats were worth playing music with.
Bastard Sunshine has been playing regular shows since mid 2010 at venues in Toronto such as The Hideout, El Mocambo, The Press Club and Jang Bang, and with artists such as Kai, Macula, Kevin Myles Wilson Trio and Kill Giants. We were extremely lucky to break in the New Year on the history-steeped stage of the Horseshoe Tavern, of which Lonely Vagabond wrote:

Thanks Lonely Vagabond! Bastard Sunshine is currently working on their first EP, due to be released when we get it done. But before summer 2011, we promise!
The music of Bastard Sunshine has been compared to many different artists; the vocals are reminiscent of Tool, the bass lines bring to mind Flea or Eric Wilson, the guitar work gives us a glimpse of Clapton. The 90`s influenced sound that BS broadcasts holds tastes of grunge, with a strong focus on the weaving of melody and complex beats. Quite often the songs represent the balance between the good in our lives, and the ugly, much like the name Bastard Sunshine. A list of influences would include bands such as Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, Soundgarden, Metallica, Jeff Beck, The Band, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Brian May and Paul Gilbert.
