Kicking off last Saturday night's shenanigans at the ruby-reared soiree was the much-talked about Bat Country.
Completely instrumental, the four rather talented lads made good workings of splicing deeper, almost funk-based rhythms with off-beats, electronic drillings and atmospheric guitar wailings in a totally progressive way.
This approach to music really is not everyone's niche and I only really started to grasp what they were trying to achieve by their third song - out of a four tune long set. But when Capital City's lead man Sam Scherr took a step up for a full improvisation session with the guys for the last adieu, it showed how amazing these musicians are when they actually let go of apprehension and just roll. - Drum Media Magazine (Issue# 087 29/05/08)

Bio
Bat Country first took shape in late 2005 as three musically-frustrated individuals embarked on a journey to somehow rattle out the cacophony in their minds. with combined experiences ranging from funk to punk, jazz to rock, blues to hip-hop, country to western(?), this initially proved to be no simple task.
remaining a power trio for some time, the band went through a few different musical phases and line-ups. there were some mellower moments, with the brief addition of a sax player, some prog-inspired explorations with keyboards, and along the way, some blues-ier reflections, reggae-ish breakdowns and climactic rock crescendos! (to name a few...)
live shows usually consist of extended improvised sections, witty banter, the occasional guest accompanist (i.e. cello, bottle-slide guitar, beatbox), and, until recently, vibrant, psychedelic visuals.
to accompany the release of their forthcoming EP, Bat Country will be reworking and subsequently reintroducing the visual aspect of their live show, which has become almost a fifth band member, over time.
while slowly developing a strong, grass-roots following in their native, Perth, and sharing the stage with such notable acts as Karnivool, The Meaning Of, Opia, Dyslexic Fish, Stu Orchard, Skyrocket Fights, Day of the Dead, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, Capital City, Four Disorder, The Robot Invasion, etc., Bat Country have honed their craft and hope to unleash their sound on the large and unsuspecting world!
