"Definately one of the best bands we have had on the show to date"

Definately one of the best bands we have had on the show to date - Swindon 105.5 FM

"New Day Rising sums up this album right from the off with its feelgood, sunshiney sound."

The boys have multi instrument skills and a gift of capturing the spirit of a story and translating it through their music. This is most obvious in Two Steps Back, which has a lovelty haunting touch from the sound of the pipes, great close harmonies and beautiful mandolin yet it remains a happy tune with a foot tapper beat.

In total contrast is the ballad Hello Girl which has some strong drums and a darker more sombre feel.

The guys have been compared to Mumford and Son and I can see why as they have a folk rock tinge to even the most poppy numbers on the album such as Girl With The Cartoon Eyes and Rainy Days.

"'They could easily appeal to a lot of people'"

Sean Amor and Daryl Ball share lead vocals and their strained, gritty melodic timbres compliment each other well in a kind of home-spun harmony, and also stand up solo as they take in a variety of acoustic roots forms. Their finest moments here are when they steer the folk ship clear of any shores marked maudlin or earnest, and indulge in their talent for Jaunty roots pop tunes.

‘Two Steps Back’ is a simple perky pop song lifted by some percussive drive. The anxious melodies on the subdued, if still jangling ‘Permanent Winter’ could be the album’s understated high point. Similarly a blatantly Dylan-pilfered chord sequence on ‘The Girl With Cartoon Eyes’ lays the foundation for their best Petty-esque rock number.

"A clash of European folk and rootsy americana"

'A clash of European folk and rootsy americana, the result being a wonderful mid-atlantic blend. The defining factor seems to be simple - the ability to inject their music with a poppy accessibiliy and the sheer quality of the songwriting. All In The Past is varied enough to remain interesting and familiar enough to provide mass appeal'

It's bright and listenable enough especially the track 'New Day Rising' with it's crashing tambourines and heartfelt vocals...

"Joyous, upbeat and very infectious"

'If Dylan had not been born alongside Highway 61 but had embraced the A1 in the same mythical fashion, this might have been the result. Joyous, upbeat and very infectious….not a bad combination'.

"'Brilliant acoustic driven, totally accessible, folk tinged, melodic musical creations.'"

Bio

Daryl’s vocals are smooth with an Irish inflection, Sean’s voice is tender with a plaintiff, jagged edge, which cuts right through and suits their music perfectly.

Additionally to help broaden the authentic sound. Bateleurs employ numerous instruments in addition to the standard Guitar, Bass & Drums. These include mandolin, fiddle, ukulele, harmonica, recorder, piano & cajon.
