Bio
Born on Chicago's South Side, Batume studied drums with Chicago's Regal Theater house drummer, Girod Walker. He established himself with local Rhythm & Blues artist, Denise LaSalle, and played with the Operation Push band from 1973-1975. He went on to work with local jazz musicians touring the the Midwest college circuit. He played with George Freeman and Von Freeman before moving to New York in 1982.
Batume settled into the New York jazz scene, playing with McCoy Tyner, Jaco Patorius, Sonny Rollins, Delmar Brown and many others. Batume released his first CD in November 2004, which he wrote and produced. The CD is a taste of smooth jazz, avant garde, funk and fusion.
He currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota and plays regularly with a variety of bands.
