"Those Curves! Those Pipes! It’s the Detroit Cobras!"

Next up are Baxx SiSi's, four Japanese men clad in black and with a touch of mystery to them. Someone in the audience makes a joke where the punch line is “ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh” but Baxx SiSi's are no 5.6.7.8’s. Instead they sound as if The Crazy 88 stormed the 5.6.7.8’s stage, stole their instruments and attacked Kiddo musically – wicked bass lines rather than bo staffs, kick drum beats rather than roundhouses and a flurry of guitar chords rather than fists of fury, the whole time screaming their war cry into the microphones.

Baxx SiSi's label themselves as garage rock, but their sound is closer to speed surf, and a more classical surf at that – with less lyrics than Des Roar employed, Baxx SiSi's often led the music do the talking, to which no one complained. And when the lead singer swapped out his guitar for a harmonica, the notes may have come out of his mouth even faster than through his fingers. They would have to give way to our main characters, but like The Crazy 88, Baxx SiSi's stick in your head as something wild and cool.

Bio

Baxx SiSis consists of vocalist/guitarist Kick, basist Hiromu, drummer Shingo and his brother Keita on the keys. Four men who (aside from the set of brothers) grew up thousands of miles away from each other found each other through music in New York three years ago. Since then, they had the opportunity to open for such acts as Yo La Tengo, Rocky Erickson, John Spencer Blues Explosion, The Detroit Cobras, Paul Collins, Trashmen, 5678's, and The Mummies.
A 7-inch, recorded at the legendary Sun Records in Memphis, is going to be available soon, and the band is feverishly recording a full-length album.
