"Local bands help to light up the midway at the Fair"

It's that time of year again. The summer heat slowly dwindling and the scent of sausage and funnel cakes wafting through the autumn air can mean only one thing: The fair is in town! This year, the Pensacola Interstate Fair will have all of its usual attractions, but it will also be serving up something new in the entertainment department that will literally be music to your ears.

In addition to the main entertainment stage, for the first time, the Fair will feature the Midway Stage, an entire stage devoted to local and regional talent for you to feast upon along with your cardboard platter of curly fries.

Here's your guide to some of the local talent that will be featured at this year's fair:

Baylen: Two guitars plus a girl with a sweet voice and a guy with some folk-rock riffs up his sleeve equals Baylen, a Pensacola acoustic indie-rock two piece. With their unique and refreshing sound, they're irresistible.

The Pensacola Interstate Fair may be best known for its thrilling carnival rides, but this year, the music will be just as exciting. Let your stomach settle down while you enjoy any of these local groups along with the plethora of other regional acts that will be gracing the stage.

Bio

Acoustic/folk duo, Baylen is a musical fusion of 20 year old Tanya Gallagher and 22 year old brother-in-law, Jonathan Britnell. “Just pencil to paper,” that’s their motto. The two work as a team in every musical aspect. “Nothing about our music is forced.” says Baylen vocalist, Tanya Gallagher, “We never plan on sitting down to write songs, yet somehow they just happen.”

Hailing from the beaches of Pensacola, Florida, Baylen's music not only reflects their influences- which range from Paul Simon to Prince-, but also their surroundings. Songs like “Get Away” – which reflects the frustrations of life post-graduation- and “Fooled Again” – which was written while waiting for a friend to get out of class at the University of West Florida- personify the surroundings of day to day life for Baylen.

"My parent's always had music playing in the house," says Tanya, "James Taylor, Little Feat, there was always something. When I met Jonathan (through her sister Jessica) he introduced me to all kinds of new music ranging from Radiohead to Wilco. Though we don't always like each others influences, we definitely respect them!"

Baylen’s debut album "It's Been So Long” will be independently released in November 2007.
