Biography

Acoustic/folk duo, Baylen is a musical fusion of 20 year old Tanya Gallagher and 22 year old brother-in-law, Jonathan Britnell. “Just pencil to paper,” that’s their motto. The two work as a team in every musical aspect. “Nothing about our music is forced.” says Baylen vocalist, Tanya Gallagher, “We never plan on sitting down to write songs, yet somehow they just happen.”

Hailing from the beaches of Pensacola, Florida, Baylen's music not only reflects their influences- which range from Paul Simon to Prince-, but also their surroundings. Songs like “Get Away” – which reflects the frustrations of life post-graduation- and “Fooled Again” – which was written while waiting for a friend to get out of class at the University of West Florida- personify the surroundings of day to day life for Baylen.

"My parent's always had music playing in the house," says Tanya, "James Taylor, Little Feat, there was always something. When I met Jonathan (through her sister Jessica) he introduced me to all kinds of new music ranging from Radiohead to Wilco. Though we don't always like each others influences, we definitely respect them!"

Baylen’s debut album "It's Been So Long” will be independently released in November 2007.

Lyrics

Pendulum

Written By: Tanya Gallagher/ Jonathan Britnell

You make the world go round
People dancing to your song
They all eventually slow down
But you keep moving on
You just move along
You keep moving on and on and on

And the pendulum keeps on swinging
The Earth constantly spins
And these two hands are so uneven
The rotation it never ends
It just moves along
You keep moving on and on and on

You meander through the land
Water flowing all around
And your streams go hand and hand
But you never slow down
You just move along
It keeps moving on and on and on

And your ships they never part
From your path everyday
They anchor in your shallow heart
But you always remain
You just move along
You keep moving on and on and on

And sometimes at night
I get lost in my thoughts (yeah, yeah)
And my mind takes flight
And I lose the clock
And the river stops

And I wake up the next morning
Just to find it all again
It comes back with out a warning
I guess it never really ends
It just moves along
It keeps moving on and on and on

Fooled Again

Written By: Tanya Gallagher/ Jonathan Britnell

And it looks like it might rain
But I think that I’m just fooled again
Outside shines a million shades of grey
As the leaves blow through the wind
And the sun it has taken a break
Instead of breaking at the dawn
And it’s leaving my day to seem oh so grey
As I get up to move along

And it’s days like these that I can’t help but smile
And it’s just times like these when I sit back take a sigh of relief
I count my blessings look at all the things I’ve done
Because I know tomorrow, brings my sun.

And these trolley wheels they keep on rolling
Down this path so worn
As I stare off in the distance
Through the early mist of the fog of morn
And I feel that I’m losing touch
But I tell myself it will all just be alright
Because even though this day is wasted
I still have hope, hope for tonight

And it’s days like these that I can’t help but smile
And it’s just times like these when I sit back take a sigh of relief
I count my blessings look at all the things I’ve done
Because I know tomorrow, brings my sun.

And it’s sunshine on my shoulder
The sun it helps me get through all my pain
And it’s sunshine on my shoulder now
But for now I think I’ll be content here with this rain

And it’s days like these that I can’t help but smile
And it’s just times like these when I sit back take a sigh of relief
I count my blessings look at all the things I’ve done
Because I know tomorrow, brings my sun.

Get Away

Written By: Tanya Gallagher/ Jonathan Britnell

I’ve got so much on my mind that I’ve got to, got to get away yeah
And I’ve got so much on my mind that I’ve got to, got to get away

I’m just going through the motion
No longer do I feel any emotion
My world begins to fade
It’s such a shame; I’ll never know my potential
And they say in time it will eventually change
But I know it’s just the same so I won’t complain
I won’t complain, I’ll just change my ways

Because I’ve got so much on my mind that I’ve got to, got to get away yeah
And I’ve got so much on my mind that I’ve got to, got to get away

Wouldn’t it be nice, if time would stay?
Wouldn’t it be nice, if we could get away?

Because I’ve got so much on my mind that I’ve got to, got to get away yeah
And I’ve got so much on my mind that I’ve got to, got to get away

Concrete

Written By: Tanya Gallagher/ Jonathan Britnell

It’s written on my face
It’s written in the news
It’s all over this place
But it hasn’t quite got to you
It’s such a disgrace
Aw the things that we do
We keep building all of these fires
But then forget about their fumes

Concrete all around
Constantly building
If we keep taking from this ground
What will be left when we end?

And it’s such a shame
Aw the way that we live
Man we’re constantly taking
But tell me what can you give?
We start to feel the strain
Of the action here and there
Tell me when will this world
Will they start to care?

Concrete all around
Constantly building
If we keep taking from this ground
What will be left when we end?

We’ve been given this place
But look what we’ve done
We’re all here together now
Burning under the same sun

Concrete all around
Constantly building
If we keep taking from this ground
What will be left when we end?

I Am Thinking of You

Written By: Tanya Gallagher

In the morning when the sun awakes
You’re the first thing that does come to my mind
All I can say is I am thinking of you

As I go through my day
As the hours slowly slip on by
All I can say is I am thinking of you

When the night falls into the sky
And the stars shine, oh they shine so bright
All I can say is I am thinking of you

As I lay myself to bed
Close my eyes but oh I can not sleep
All I can say is I am thinking of you

And when the dawn it does break
Over the ocean oh I can’t
Help but to find all myself
In love, with you

In the morning when the sun awakes
You’re the first thing that does come to my mind
All I can say is I am thinking of you
