Bayou City Swing adds gypsy jazz flavor to Houston and adds Houston flavor to gypsy jazz.
The group draws inspiration from the music of Le Quintette du Hot Club de France. Adding Houston flair to the swinging jazz manouche rhythms; Bayou City Swing pays hommage to the work of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grapelli by spreading it around the Space City and beyond.
With members active in different music scenes (rock, classical, jazz); it was a common love for the music known as "gypsy jazz" that brought their paths to converge into what is now the most vibrant new swing group in Texas.
Not straying from other musical influences, the group also presents arrangements of pieces that reflect their diverse backgrounds, so it won't be uncommon to hear adaptations of works by Chopin or Mozart followed by a mariachi tune or a Peruvian waltz - or even a rocking riff or a Beatles melody here and there.
Bayou City Swing has an infectious sound that puts every audience in a dancing mood and leaves them with a happy heart.
