The letters "BC" may come second and third in
the alphabet, but I assure you that the artist
known as BC is second to none. He was born
Billy Clay Cotton in Lake Charles, Louisiana in
1988. His father gave him the middle name,
Clay, in honor of the "G.O.A.T." (greatest of all
time), Cassisus Marcellus Clay, also known as
Muhammad Ali. And BC definitely carries
some of Ali’s characteristics. He has an
extensive vocabulary, an incredible work ethic,
a “can’t be beat” mentality, and is not afraid to
speak the truth.
Since the young age of fifteen, BC has been a
student of this game that we call Hip Hop. He
understands the influence and
power that words have on people. It’s with
this understanding that BC writes his
songs. He writes songs with the purpose of
building up the world – not to tear it
down. Hip Hop isn’t going to be
reinvented. What Hip Hop will be is revamped
and restructured. And what Hip Hop needs is
someone like BC, because he embodies what
Hip Hop should be. BC is not in Hip Hop for
the fame or the money. And if you ask
him what sets him apart from other artists,
he’ll keep it simple by saying, “My purpose is
to bring change through harmony and words…I
just want to be heard." He just wants to be
heard…now all you have to do is listen.
