"Virginia Beach's Bear Crossing makes MTV soundtrack"

By Patty Jenkins

Virginia Beach band Bear Crossing has signed with Silent Majority Group, specializing in distribution and promotion for up-and-coming acts through Warner Music Group/Independent Label Group.

The trio consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Jason Eure, bassist Mason Waldrup and drummer Rob Parker had its song “A Resistance, For You!” featured on MTV’s “The Real World St. Thomas,” episode 9 airing last week.

The alternative rock band released, “Our Friend, Hope” in 2011. The 10-song album made its debut at No. 127 on College Music Journal charts.

Earlier this year, BearX – which it’s commonly referred as – played South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, and released its music video for “Kings,” produced by former Virginia Beach director Scott Hansen, now living in Los Angeles.

The rockers will begin a national tour the middle of September hitting major cities from New York to California.

"Bear Crossing: Lucky 13th"

On Wednesday the 26th, we stumbled into the Liquid Lounge around 10pm, and amidst the people that had come to watch some amateur stand up comedy sit three gentlemen in a booth patiently awaiting for their debut show in good ol Boise, Idaho. If you weren’t in the bar for comedy you would have no idea that this grandeur band, Bear Crossing, was about to take the stage. With only a small Facebook invitation for promotion, Bear Crossing took the stage to beat the odds and win us over with their power ballots and incredible anthems.
Bear Crossing is on their first tour, and decided to bless us with their new album “Our Friend, Hope.”. This album is filled with political messages hidden within their face-melting metal beauty. With lead singer Jason Eure exercising his wide range of vocals, it’s no wonder this band is regularly compared to such bands as Muse, and Mars Volta. As soon as Liquid was graced with their first song, it was apparent that this band will soon be greeted with a much larger venue in the near future.
After closing with their single “Kings”, we got to meet these gentlemen from Virginia. “13 shows in 13 days…”. This is what Jason explained to me, after apologizing if he sounded a “little off”, which he didn’t. Like most up and coming bands, this humble trio is touring on their own, selling their own merchandise hoping to make it to the next town.
I recommend you snag their album at a steal of a price of seven dollars… that is if you are into good music. I wish you good luck Jason, Mason, and Robbie. We hope to see you back in Boise in the near future, until then, good luck winning others over, although I don’t think you will have too much trouble. Check out their website to give them a listen or you can right below as well. - The C.O.T.

"“Note”Worthy: Bear Crossing “Kings”"

Bear Crossing is the culmination of raging guitars, pounding bass, aggressive drums, and anthem-crazed crowds. The war is approaching; the choice is to resist oppression or fall to slavery. Melding the foundation of rock and modern story-telling, BC conceptualizes an intricate tale without sacrificing song. This song could find it’s way nicely in a surf film. Enjoy. - OBX Surf

Bear-X song featured on MTV’S Real World TONIGHT @ 10pm!

Water-Borne sponsored band “BEAR CROSSING” will have one of their songs featured on MTV’s The Real World tonight airing @ 10pm on the RIGHTcoast! That song is “A RESISTANCE FOR YOU”, this video was filmed right down the beach in the OBX! This song along with their album “Our Friend, Hope” is one of my favorite things to listen to when I really need to get JACKED UP and do sum’n crazy! Their music is original and very hardcore while at the same time clean and a good listen for all ages! The band is most definitely a solid/stand-up group of guys with a unique sound that will make your ears jump up and down! Point blank it freagin rocks and ya need to check it out! They are currently on tour from VA 2 CA and from New York to Washington, I guarantee your satisfaction if you are able to make it out to one of their SHOWS! Here’s a little more about these cool doods:

“BearX’s Jason Eure, Mason Waldrup, and Robbie Rob hale from entirely different musical backgrounds to form their own unique sonic venture. Bear Crossing’s, “Our Friend, Hope” is a conceptual full-length album (debuted CMJ Top 200) that is drenched with metaphors attacking corrupt politicians and evil empires to championing that a lost love taken from you is something worth dying for. Their stadium style live show captivates and will have you chanting anthems and raging to aggressive breakdowns.

"Bear Crossing rouses after brief hibernation"

By Patty Jenkins

The Virginia Beach band Bear Crossing has been making a name for itself outside Hampton Roads.

Even as its lead singer dealt with two surgeries last year, the trio has charged ahead, releasing a debut album, receiving a licensing deal and charting on college radio. Now, the band is back home after playing the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Jason Eure formed Bear Crossing in 2009 with a fellow BMX biker and another member. When the original trio dissolved, Eure and bassist Mason Waldrup joined forces in the summer of 2010.

"When the music started taking a different direction and we (saw) how serious it was getting, we knew we needed a drummer," Waldrup said when he and Eure spoke with The Pilot by phone last week.

Drummer Rob Parker was added to the lineup in fall 2010. Waldrup and Parker had played together in a local metal band called Dead Thoughts Memory.

"And it's sort of taken off from there," Waldrup added.

After the band released its debut album, "Our Friend, Hope" in September, the trio was approached by Tinderbox Music, which was interested in putting together a radio campaign for the college market. The music promotion and distribution company is based out of Minneapolis and Nashville, Tenn.

"Originally we wanted our campaign to coincide with our first tour, but unfortunately that was when I paralyzed my left vocal cord," Eure said.

The progressive alternative rock band was forced to cancel most of its inaugural tour, which included more than 50 show dates from here to California.

The surgery was one of two for Eure. In November he underwent back surgery, missing out on a scheduled performance at Localpalooza 2011 and putting the band on hold for a few months.

In March, Tinderbox Music invited Bear Crossing to perform at its South by Southwest showcase.

"When we actually started our set there was probably only 15 to 20 people in the bar, but... by the time we were done with our first or second song the whole venue had completely filled out," Eure said. "That was pretty awesome."

Tinderbox has since offered Bear Crossing a licensing agreement to have its music featured on ESPN, MTV and Discovery television networks.

"Our Friend, Hope" - a 10-song album featuring "A Resistance, For You!" and "Kings" - made its debut at No. 127 on College Music Journal charts.

The album reached the position in its first week of release and held for two months, according to Eure.

A Hunter Chapman-produced video for the song "A Resistance, For You!" can be viewed on the band's website at www.bearcrossingtheband.com. For the trio's second video, "Kings," they enlisted the help of former Virginia Beach producer Scott Hansen, now living in Los Angeles.

As for the album, "it has a don't-let-anybody-hold-you-down kind of feel to it," Waldrup said.

"It's really about hope and inspiring people in a positive way," Eure said of his lyrics.

In addition to playing SXSW, the trio recently participated in a live chat with a Seattle college radio station. In May, they will travel to New York for an in-station interview/performance on the Real Radio Show featuring Frankie Dee, Henry K and Twisted Sister's A.J. Pero; and locally, they will be featured on Cox Channel 11's Soundcheck.

Later this month, Bear Crossing will headline one of the three nights at the Florida Music Festival in Orlando. Tonight they will play at Shaka's with Raleigh-based Attalus in a "show-swap," which will have the trio traveling to Raleigh on Friday.

"Local Review: Minus the Bear @ The NorVa"

And that just bums me out. But every once in a while, and more often than not lately, something or someone comes along and gets your pretty little asses moving. And Minus the Bear got those booties shaking at The NorVa, didn’t they?

But let’s talk pleasant surprises first, shall we? Tim Kasher of Cursive and Good Life fame opening for Minus the Bear? I know, right!?

I got to the show and I saw Mr. Kasher step on stage (sorry, Bear Crossing; missed you again), and I knew it was going to be a great night... - Alt Daily- Jerome Spencer

lookout for BEAR CROSSING!

Bear Crossing is an Alternative – Rock trio from Chesapeake, VA. They have been compared to Muse, Modest Mouse, and Coheed & Cambria. Bear Crossing has shared the stage with Tonic, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Fanfarlo and the Sleeping.

Bear Crossing’s first EP, “Oour Friend, Hope. Chapter one: The Saga of the Open Sea”, is a part of a three chapter conceptual EP release. Jason Eure wrote and composed these six songs about the hero’s sea journey through amazing and terrible adventures, to find his long lost love Petunia.

"Minus The Bear @The Norva Norfolk, VA 12/1"

Flannels and Beards and Bears – oh my! No this isn’t a lumberjack version of The Wizard of Oz it was the scene of a brisk Wednesday night at downtown Norfolk’s beloved music spot, The Norva. Three bands with varied sensibilities but a shared desire to “bring it” on an otherwise chilly school night. And with so many varied genres and sub-classifications you’d think this was a homework assignment. I’ll try not to be too academic.
Bear Crossing
Opening the show was flannel-laden trio Bear Crossing. A band of local boys hailing from Chesapeake with their spirited take on their self-proclaimed style of “progressive crowd rock”. Strutting around the stage lead singer/guitarist Jason Eure mixed equal parts Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate) with a screaming Sebastian Bach. While some of the facial gestures and body thrusts verged on the realm of cheese-ball the band has a true passion for what they do and aren’t afraid to ham it up if it gets the crowd going. Music wise there are a few fun anthems full of “ooohhs” and driving riffs but they will need a few more well-crafted songs to reach the other side. - MERCHANTS OF ROCK

"Who, What, When! Bear Crossing"

After a crowd screaming show January 29th at Hanger 09, Bear Crossing says farewell until early summer, as they have set out on a nation wide tour with 50+ dates already confirmed and another 20+ in the wings.

"Rogue Wave @ The NorVa"

I love me some indie rock. My predilection to indie rock is its own article, trust me. But you’ve got to draw a line somewhere. Rogue Wave is not a bad band, but they’re not doing anything I haven’t heard before. They’re very low-energy, paint-by-numbers indie rock that doesn’t do anything that blows me away or strikes me as particularly original. I mean “Publish My Love” is a nice little ditty, but, let’s be honest, Rogue Wave isn’t exactly Botticelli. Rogue Wave is just a naked prostitute...
My apologies to Bear Crossing for missing their opening set for this metaphorical burlesque show. I’m told bear Crossing is a hard-working and genuine local band and I regret that I was too late to show my support. - ALT DAILY -Jerome Spencer
