Biography

Bear Down Easy was forged in October of 2006 by five ambitious musicians eager to explore the realms of acoustic music. Core members Andy Burke, Ian Mulrenin, and Lucas Nelson had casually played together for several years after meeting on the
campus of UNC Asheville. They began sharing and exploring their initial interest in bluegrass and folk music. Then the three boys soon picked up violinist and music tech major Paul Stroebel. When their talented bassist, Cole Sigmon, moved out of town to work on a fishing boat, his position was quickly filled by Jonah Freedman. As such, their original vision remains, combining original tunes with traditional
bluegrass, folk, gospel, and blues. Their music is deeply rooted in bluegrass tradition, with shades of old-time and modern folk as well as influences from classical music. Themes of original material, almost exclusively written by Andy Burke on mandolin and Ian Mulrenin on guitar, span from wildfires and broken hearts to the legacy and tragedy of Beethoven. Bear Down Easy lives and performs in Asheville, NC, and looks forward to bringing its act
to your location in the future.
