"Escape to New York"

It's day 3 of Leeds Festival and I am awake... just! Feeling a little ragged and sporting a few rather unattractive sleep scars down one side of my face, I need a little something to soothe my soul and be gentle on my ears.

I head off to see Bearfoot Beware on the BBC Introducing Stage. Other than liking their name, I know nothing of their music. Ahh... lovely gentle and melodic start (perfect), but the bastards lull me in to a false sense of security and it hits full weight, within 30 seconds, thrashing guitars and heavy drums!! But you know, I kind of like it, despite the fact I have a hammer drill going off in my head.

The bass player has a well-toned scream and furious energy, at one point he is so submersed in the performance, he forgets the microphone, but his voice still projects out across the growing crowd. I can't help giggling watching the photographers try to get a shot of him; he does not keep still for a minute. All the while, the drummer beats away with a smug delight on his face, as he checks out the lead singer, Bassist and the crowd in turn, proud of his well place rhythms and the intricate changes. Well it does totally wow me! Bearfoot Beware have a genuine connection without trying too hard. Their music is not forced, contrived, or copied and I get the sense this music just happens, it feels naturally energetic, creative and just bloody brilliant! I think I might become a math rock convert?! - Leeds Music Scene

Bio

Comprising of Thom Bradley, Ric Vowden and Mike Osborne, this year has seen the gentlemen release their sophomore EP BASS LANE (pronounced like - but not to be confused with; the fish), performing alongside the likes of Johnny Foreigner, Tellison and Two Door Cinema Club in the process. Their latest record marks the next transgression in the band's habitual knack for combining pop harmonies with the the stop-start abrasiveness of math rock. Whatever that means.

Live however, is where Bearfoot Beware's raw energy and prog-inspired freakouts come alive. A combination of childlike over exuberance and mature musicianship.
