Beatox

Beatox (Adam Fainman) is a funk/hip-hop/jazz inspired beat-boxer, rapper.  Beatox’s music draws inspiration from groups such as A Tribe Called Quest, D’Angelo, and Raphael Saadiq.  His lyricism and storytelling abilities are commonly compared to Slug from Minnesota group Atmosphere.  He was born and raised in Toronto, and moved to Winnipeg in high school.  His mother (Rachel Kane) was a successful musician in Toronto and was a large reason he acquired such a knowledgeable background in music, and passion for the arts.  Once he settled into Winnipeg, he quickly began learning about the arts scene and soon he met fellow rapper SMRT, and the two of them created a hip-hop group called Butter Pretzels.   After the release of their first CD, the group created a lot of buzz in the city and on local radio stations (Rhythm 104.7, 101.5 UMFM, and 95.9 CKUW).  Their clever lyrics, unique melodies and outgoing personalities, both on and off the stage, helped draw a lot of followers.  With his beat boxing, dancing, quick wordplay and charming personality, Beatox really stands out as a performer.

With two CDs from Butter Pretzels, and one solo mix tape titled “Modest Mouth”; Beatox is now working with various musicians from the University of Manitoba’s Jazz program to create a new sound.  This new project is starting to turn heads in the city and on the Internet because of his lyricism and beat boxing mixed now with live jazz-trained musicians.  The new sound is catered around Beatox resulting in energetic, exciting shows and a refreshing new sound.  The combination of talented musicians with a charismatic, beat-boxing, clever rapper is a rarity in the music scene.

The focus for this new project is to create an album that takes the listeners on a journey through darkness and light.  It will showcase Beatox’s storytelling of his personal life, pursuit of love and happiness, and the struggles along that journey.  Accompanied by incredible musicians, talented female vocals, superb production at Trendkill Productions, and unique beat boxing, this project is extremely versatile and will be making a buzz once they release the music, music videos, and tour around to different cities.  The project has been written and produced from the ground-up to create a flowing story, both audibly and visually.  Beatox is collaborating with many cinematographers, editors and actors to create music videos for each song, and when combined they will create a short film.  Beatox is truly a work of art in his own unique, quirky, funny, smart and talented way.
