Bio

Montreal-based singer/songwriter Beatrice Keeler released her full-length debut album, Bygone, on Sept. 29 2017 through Montreal label Productions Bros. The all-original collection will mark the formal introduction of an artist who in 2016 charmed Quebec on her way to the semi-finals of La Voix, the province’s francophone version of the hit television show The Voice.

It was an auspicious break for the then-25-year-old artist from Kingston, Ontario who had been studying creative writing at Concordia University. But despite being less than fluently bilingual, Keeler’s natural talent—expressed through material by the likes of Nirvana and French music legend Charles Trenet—seduced the show’s judges, not to mention a majority of its 2.5 million viewers.

Having played classical piano as a child, and been a part of punk and alt-rock bands as a teenager, Bygone is truly a fresh musical beginning for Keeler, using everything she’s learned to offer a cohesive listening experience that reveals its depth with each listen. Essentially, the album documents the evolution that has occurred since Keeler moved to Montreal in 2012, combining the heavier sounds she once explored with her more recent forays into acoustic music, ultimately presenting the more complicated, mature singer/songwriter she has become.

In terms of musical touchstones for Bygone, Keeler cites the work of Laura Marling and Bahamas, while also giving nods to former Karkwa front man Louis-Jean Cormier and American progressive rockers White Denim. But at the heart of Bygone is Keeler’s unmistakable voice, the key to what will surely be a compelling body of work to come.

2018 will be full for Beatrice Keeler, who will begin a provincial and national tour. She will be in Toronto mid-January / early February in Toronto and then throughout Quebec the rest of the year.
