"Beauxregard"

Beauxregard, meantime, picks up the Bowie mantle and runs with it, taking unexpected turns along the way. Their songs are catchy but far from cloying, as the group infuses its tunes with surprising musical choices; the results are transfixing."

"Beauxregard Bound"

I've been doing this music thing for more than six years now. There are plenty of excellent local bands that get loads of attention with the growing number of music blogs and sites popping up every 10 minutes or so. Since much of the scene is so heavily covered, and of course Hunter is here to keep up with the bunch, I thought I'd redirect my attention toward new bands, or at least bands that nobody is talking about, but display darn fine sounds.

While working on Tonight's top five, I came across another excellent show produced by Carlin Stultz of Callithump Productions. Carlin throws a weekly (Tuesday nights) shindig at Club Dada and her taste is quite splendid. 'Nuther words, the broad knows good bands. I went in search of one of the local bands on tonight's bill at Dada and was quite pleased with what I heard.

I give you Beauxregard.

There's not much I can tell you about the band other than its members are Guy "Fritz" Fitz, Ryan "Bryan" Rhodes, Jason Quincy "Mason" Romine, Curtis Tinsley, Jonathan "Geni" Toles, Laura Watkins. I can also tell you that their old-school new wave, new-school electronica sound has me captivated. I'll see what I can find out and get backatcha post haste. Meantime, enjoy another tune.

It might be in your best interest to head to Club Dada tonight and catch this sweet show.

"Beauxregard"

Beauxregard: This is a band worth checking out, for those who haven't heard of them. It's pretty interesting stuff, and worth going just to see their front man dance around. He's really selling what they've got."

"Just Fine and Dandy"

Jason Quincy Romine (left), the singer of Beauxregard, is trying to find a good way to describe the band's brand of music. "It's not very consistent to a genre. It's kind of like new wave, but a little more rock intensive."

Romine, 30, fronts the fairly new Dallas band with old friends, guitarist Ryan Rhodes and bassist John Toles, both of whom he played with in the Trophy Club until 2003. Rounded out by John's fiancée, keyboardist Laura Watkins, and recruits Daniel Robertson (guitar) and Curtis Tinsley (drums), the group is currently working on a rock opera.

Of the odd name, Romine explains, "The overall image of the band is, well, we don't dress up, but we dress the part and I kind of look like this Victorian dandy, and Beauxregard kind of seemed like a Victorian dandy name."

Here's more from Romine:Q: The Web sites listed on your two MySpace pages are onahorse.com and monkeywashingacat.ytmd.com, which are, er, interesting, but not likely your pages. Explain.

A: We don't have an official Web site yet. The monkey one we found on gordonkeith.com, and onahorse.com – man, I could watch that for hours.

Q: How does the idea of a rock opera go over to locals as you introduce the band?

A: We're just going to make it and see who listens to it. Our title song "The Captain and the Mermaid" is seven-and-a-half minutes, which is kind of long. One day Ryan and I decided to make a rock opera and we did it, so we'll see.

Q: You're giving away the music for free on request, at shows, correct?

A: We're pretty new in the grand scheme of things. We don't have a record deal and we're not going to make scads of money off of this right now, so we just want to get stuff out there. If that means giving away free burned demos, we'll do it. I think we'd be crazy to charge for it at this point.

Q: What's something new about the band that you'd like to introduce to the public?

A: There is a term we want to introduce to the world. Our old guitarist, Guy Fitz, came up with "Le Beauxregard Chic" or "LBC." Like, human cannonballs, pole-sitting and flappers and things from the '20s are so "LBC."

Bio

Beauxregard was formed originally in December of 2005 mostly by former members of the now-defunct fuzz-pop outfit known as The Trophy Club. The band's principal song writers to this point have been guitarist Ryan Rhodes and vocalist Quincy Romine.
In an effort to insure a quality live performance, Beauxregard, as a band, opted to practice right away rather than play out. As a result of said decision, the band did not actually begin to perform live unitl September 2006. Since that point, Beauxregard has had the privilege of opening for several national touring acts (Boyskout, Scissors for Lefty, Tartufi, Pretty n' Nice to name a few, but not all) as well as notable local acts such as The Happy Bullets. Also Beauxregard has received some very complimentary press such as:

"Beauxregard, meantime, picks up the Bowie mantle and runs with it, taking unexpected turns along the way. Their songs are catchy but far from cloying, as the group infuses its tunes with surprising musical choices; the results are transfixing."
-Jonanna Widner, Chief Music Editor,
Dallas Observer

Beauxregard is currently scheduled to play several shows including an upcoming live feature on a radio program that spotlights indie bands/artists that have created a bit of buzz for themselves.
