The best kept secret in music
Press
The energy of Because We Can, Detroit natives and fanatics, is addictive. At their practice they are tight, with lead guitarist, Bobby McManus, awing on-lookers. His speed, dexterity and precision impress even his bandmates, who lovingly call him Jimi Hendrix. “We got together and were just in awe of each other,” drummer Jackie Phillips explains. Each member plays multiple instruments, has been in several bands and brings to BWC these varied experiences and preferences. “We are alternative, pop, punk, rock with fantasy metal and jazz influences. That is the truth. You can’t really categorize it,” Phillips says. “It’s mostly pop,” McManus interjects. Only 6 months old, BWC have started to play out. “We have this amazing pyrotechnic show we borrowed from the guys of Great White,” vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Erik Ladendorf jokes. “We have all done this before and sometimes being in a band isn’t fun. But we make this fun,” Bobby explains. “We are, like, the best band ever,” Jackie says before Bobby corrects her saying: “I think Brand New is the best band ever.” - REAL DETROIT WEEKLY
