Biography

Songwriting began for Beck at the age of nineteen when she first picked up the guitar. Fascinated by the act of vibrating strings together, music very quickly became a tool for personal expression. Niece to Terry Fielding (co-writer of the 1972 number #1 hit “The Whale”), songwriting is a family legacy and a natural undertaking for Beck to bring music and words together.

Over the years, Beck has developed an incredibly unique guitar style, percussive, powerful and dynamic. Local Sydney musos quote her as having “the best right hand in the business!” Her voice is well revered by those who have heard it.

Radically inspired by the deep reflections of Missy Higgins’, “Sound of White”, Beck relocated from the nations capital to develop her musical career in Sydney. She has independently released her first EP, “Hurricane” at Sydney’s premiere music venue, The Basement. Go to Beck’s music page for a full listing of on-line stores.

“Beck is a magnificent storyteller who channels her life experiences into beautiful songs that are so wonderful to listen. It is a unique style that is both brilliant and instructive.” – Pete Scully, President of the Songwriting Society of Australia

Lyrics

In the City

Written By: Beck Fielding

VERSE 1
It’s Saturday
The night’s begun to fall
And the summer rain’s
Washed the windows and the walls

PRE-CHORUS
Oh and I, I’m so pleased
We’re all living here
In the city
Feels so good to be
Living here
In the city

CHORUS
In the city x2

VERSE 2
I speed through busy streets
I’m weaving in and out
Pull in to park my jeep
A couple streets down
Oh I step along a path
Feeling just a tad on edge
The sounds of Luna Park
Are flashin’ at me
From up ahead

PRE-CHORUS, CHORUS, SOLO

BRIDGE
Shootin’ cans and fairy floss
Ticket box, I’ll pay the cost for fun
Dodgem cars, Ferris wheel
The carnie calls his spiel, “Roll on up!”
Whoa-ho!
Fasten for this ride
Cause you can change gears and fly
You can fly

OUTRO
Ooh-ooh, in the city
Ooh-ooh, in the city
Ooh-ooh
In the city [Repeat to End]

Coulda Been My Love

Written By: Beck Fielding

INTRO
I won’t pretend
It wasn’t hard
To drive away
When I wanted you
To ask me to
Turn around and stay

VERSE 1
I wrapped your
Your wounded soul
In bandages
I pulled you back
When I saw you there
On the mountain’s edge
As you lay down by my fire
I gave you warmth
For the first time
I reached out
And almost touched love

CHORUS
You coulda been my, been my love
You coulda been my, been my love

VERSE 2
I won’t forget
The time we spent
Sharing our minds
With an honesty
Oh and respect
Of a special kind
You let me be
You let me dream
And share my heart
For the first time
I reached out
And almost touched love

CHORUS
You coulda been my, been my love
You coulda been my, been my love

BRIDGE
I won’t expect
The world of you at all
But I’d be back
To come for you
If you called

CHORUS
Cause you coulda been my
You coulda been my
My love
My love
Been my love
My love, my love
You coulda been my love
My love….[to fade]

Anytime Soon

Written By: Beck Fielding

VERSE 1
You know I always
Thought it should be
You standing right there
Next to me
But I cannot say
It will be that way
Anytime soon

VERSE 2
It was the first time
That I felt
Remotely close to
Somebody else
But I cannot say
It will be that way
Anytime soon

CHORUS
I opened the window and in with the draft
Came a letter of something new
It’d been six years since I’d even entertained love
Surprised me more than anyone else

VERSE
So I kept imagining,
A house lined with trees
Laughter falling
From the eves
But I cannot say
It will be that way
Anytime soon

CHORUS
BRIDGE
Each time I came to you
Walls fell apart
There seemed no need
For them now
From a child I decided
I would not come out
You showed me it’s not set in stone
And I should never be -
I should never be -
I should never be alone

VERSE 3
It was the first time
That I felt
Remotely close to
Somebody else
But I cannot say
It will be that way
Or if the sun
Goes ‘round the moon
But I cannot say
It will be that way
Anytime soon
You know I cannot say
It will be that way
Anytime soon

Hurricane

Written By: Beck Fielding

HURRICANE © 2010 Beck Fielding

VERSE 1
There's a storm
Out at sea
Pressure falls
It gathers speed
It's coming!! [whispered] X2

PRE-CHORUS
News reports flash on TV
Mother Earth is suffering
Acid rain
Destroys her lakes
This way of life is just insane
Causing change

CHORUS
Like a hurricane
So much change will come
Like a hurricane

VERSE 2
A golden globe
Is there for everyone
Brings a ray of hope
To show what can be undone
It’s right there!! [whispered] X2

PRE-CHORUS
Trapped in a whirlwind of deceit
Wiping out her sacred trees
Dusty plains
Where forests stood
Man’s greed has overruled
Causing change

CHORUS
Like a hurricane
So much change will come
Like a hurricane

BRIDGE
There’s things to be done
We can harness the sun
Plant windmills like trees
Clean up the oceans
And the air that we breathe

OUTRO
Like a hurricane
We cannot trust the ones who lead
Like a hurricane
It’s coming down to you and me
It’s just a mile away
We cannot trust the ones who lead
Gotta do whatever it takes
It’s coming down to you and me
To stop this hurricane
We cannot trust the ones who lead
To stop this hurricane
