Biography

Becky Bishop is a unique artist. Unlike so many songwriters and musicians, she understands the importance of incorporating the diversity of what music has to offer. Her beautiful mix of songs creates layers of emotion and musical textures. This is by design. Bishop's songs encompass folk, blues, rock, and country with a little bit of Celtic and World music style thrown into the mix, as illustrated beautifully in her newest release Shapeshifting. The CD title Shapeshifting is derived from the mythical and folklore theme of an animal or person that changes physical form. As a true artist in her own words, she knows, one must "color outside the lines." She moves out of the mold and enjoys and creates many musical layers.

Born in Orange County, in Southern California and raised in Oregon, Becky's father gave her a guitar at age eleven. With guitar in hand and her parents' support, singing and song writing came to her naturally. "By thirteen, I was performing at school and local small town events." At Brigham Young University, Becky majored in Special Education. After graduation, she was hired as a model; but with music ever beckoning, Becky relinquished modeling to focus on her song writing and performance.

Early on, Billy Bremner, a well-known British musician, was her mentor, helping Becky develop her songs and performances. With his help, Bishop has become a true songwriter and performer. Becky recalls one of the most rewarding experiences with Rodney Crowell at the former world famous Palomino Club in North Hollywood: "Backstage, after the show, Crowell came up to me, complimented my performance and songs. Coming from one of my favorite songwriters, I was overwhelmed by his supportive comments."

As an adult and living in L.A., she began hanging out at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. Hooking up with many talented musicians and eventually forming her own band, she played local clubs and toured.

Today, Becky is a versatile performer, singing solo with her acoustic or with the full band backing her up-whatever the gig requires. Becky Bishop wants her music and songs to reach out to a broad spectrum of people. Touring internationally is on her agenda. She doesn't wish to be classified into one type of music, because she wants the freedom, (like any creative musician,) to grow, experiment and musically evolve. The best artists always take this position, as does Bishop.

It's been a long, hard climb. Overcoming obstacles has helped her music grow and mature. With her strong will and talent, Becky Bishop has arrived!

Take the time to experience her talents. You can enjoy her songs and get additional information right here on www.ijamr.com as well as on her website, www.beckybishop.net.

How Does It Feel

What would it feel like on top of the world
Or when the bottom drops out
How would it feel to be in control
How would it feel to not be

How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel

What would it feel like to express yourself
When nobody really cares
Kind of like standing up naked in church
Invisible to everyone there

How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel

Somebody's lyin' somebody's cryin'
Somebody's gonna be without
Somebody's gonna be unhappy
Unless they got something to whine about

What would it feel like to be somebody else
Someone you really want to be
Everybody would come to your party
Giving you anything you want or need

How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel

Because

I'm foolish and I'm reckless never stay in one place long
I'm living life from day to day, anywhere I can belong
I get into moving and it gets into me
I've made my bed and I lay in it
That's the way it's gonna be

I am the way I am
You are the way you are
Don't ask me why 'cause I don't know
It's just because

You don't have to say I love you just because you do
Words don't ever mean a thing, it's your actions that hold true
Every time you tell a lie it all comes down on you
That's the way it always goes
There's nothing you can do

I am the way I am
You are the way you are
Just like planet Earth goes spinning 'round among the stars

I am the way I am
You are the way you are
Don't ask me why 'cause I don't know
It's just because

When you're feeling bored to the core
Just go on out beyond your front door
And nothing is the same anymore

I'm foolish and I'm reckless never stay in one place long
I'm living life from day to day, anywhere I can belong

I am the way I am
You are the way you are
Don't ask me why 'cause I don't know
It's just because

Full Moon Over Babylon

Full Moon Over Babylon

Mission bells are ringing all over today
For an innocent who got in someone's way
And somewhere in the night the bad guys hiding in the dark
Laughing 'cause they think they got away

Ambulance arriving as a cop car pulls away
Having interviewed a witness who went blind
Blinded by the bright lights of the television crews
Filming all the drama they can find

There's a full moon over Babylon
For the guilty and the innocent too
A full moon over Babylon
While Heaven hides inside of you

Mission bells are ringing all over today
For the killers who were just caught by surprise
And as the red sun goes down into the west
An ancient silver light is on the rise

There's a full moon over Babylon
For the guilty and the innocent too
A full moon over Babylon
Seeing everything we do

Don't Wake Me up

Don't Wake Me Up
Words & Music by Becky Bishop © 2004 All Rights Reserved

Don't wake me up if I am dreaming
Turn out the light as you are leaving
You know I've been a little bit wild
But now I'm sleeping like a child
Kiss my once or twice before you go

I close my eyes and see your face
Your strong warm body I embrace
And my reflection in your eyes
I get so dizzy deep inside
Feeling naked I try to find a place to hide

And I call your name in the dark
And I call your name in the dark
Over and over
Over and over again

Don't wake me up when I am sleeping
I could lay here forever dreaming
I get a vision in my head
You come and creep into my bed
And Idon't ever want to see the light of day

And I call your name in the dark
And I call your name in the dark
Over and over
Over and over again

Wild Streak

Wild Streak
Words & Music by Scott Richardson

I've always had a dark side
I was born with scars inside
From my daddy's rage
In his assembly line cage

He's sit and listen to Hank
Drinking shots of Jack
And many is the time I felt
His belt right across my back

Wild streak
That's all it taught me
Burnin' like a fever
Never let you be

I've always been in trouble
And trouble been in me
I took the road to the city
I learned the blues for free

Wild streak
That's all it taught me
Burnin' like a fever
Never let you be
Wild streak
Bad company
I'll love you then I'll leave you
That's my legacy

The road is cold and lonely
But it's still my home
I came into this world myself
And I'm goin' out alone

Wild streak
That's all it taught me
Burnin' like a fever
Never let you be
Wild streak
Bad company
I'll love you then I'll leave you
That's my legacy

I Can't Get Enough

I Can't Get Enough

If love is a lie then keep on talking
I'll just close my eyes and keep on walking
And if life is an illusion then let it be
Let it lead me on, let it mystify me

Well I've been pushed, I've been shoved
I've been pulled through the tunnel of love
And just when all of my bruises mend
Buy me another ticket and I'm ready again

Cause I can't get enough
Of luck or money or too much fun
But you know I'm strong and you know I'm tough
Cause I can't get enough
No I can't get enough

Did you ever play with the devil
In the full moonlight?
Eye to eye, face to face
Do you know what it feels like?

Well it's been one great big ball
But I can't say that I've done it all
I need a little time, just one more day
I need a little more fun and I'll be on my way

Cause I can't get enough
Of luck or money or too much fun
But you know I'm strong and you know I'm tough
Cause I can't get enough
No I can't get enough

Bigger Than Us

Bigger Than Us

I hope you're happy wherever you may be
I hope that sometimes you think about me
When you're in the shower, when you're all alone
Listen my message on your answer phone

If you would pardon a few bad habits of mine
Four letter words I don't mean to be unkind
Please ignore me when I bitch and whine
And you will be the biggest saint of all time

We all are part of something bigger
We all are part of something bigger
We all are part of something bigger
Than us

I could be almost anything I wanna be
As long as I got room to breathe and wishes are free
Here we all are dreaming in red, white and blue
Doing almost anything we want to do

We all are part of something bigger
We all are part of something bigger
We all are part of something bigger
Than us

Drinking Alone

Written By: Will Birch/Graham Revell

Words and Music by Will Birch and Graham Revell

Sittin' on a bar stool in a lonely saloon
Waitin' for a friend to phone
Lookin' at the clock, shootin' at the moon
It ain't easy when you're drinkin' alone

The bar is getting crowded and you're fed up to the teeth
Now you're in the twilight zone
Don't wanna leave your seat, but you're busting for a leak
It ain't easy when you're drinking alone

Now some folks like their fun
And some folks like their liquor
Yeah, Whiskey's pretty good, but Gin is so much quicker
And you never wanna go, so set 'em up Joe
It ain't easy when you're drinkin' alone
It ain't easy when you're drinkin' alone

And now it's getting late, closing time is near
Still waitin' for that friend to phone
You really oughta go, but have another beer
It ain't easy when you're drinkin' alone

Now some folks like their fun
And some folks like their liquor
Yeah, Whiskey's pretty good, but Gin is so much quicker
And you never wanna go, so set 'em up Joe
It ain't easy when you're drinkin' alone
It ain't easy when you're drinkin' alone

Stalkin' The Flock

Written By: Billy Bremner

Stalkin' The Flock
Words and music by Billy Bremner

A wolf finds a sheep just as easy as pie
It's the same on the streets where the stakes are high
When the wolf finds a kill the victim don't get a chance
Like the thief on the street don't give the rich guy a chance

Stalkin' the flock is what the bad guys call it
Stalkin' the flock they're hungry for your wallet
Muggin' and rollin' don't matter to them
When you're stalkin' the flock it works it out just the same

When the fox see the hen house from a long way away
It's the same for the thief he knows you've just been paid
Mr. Fox does the business and is gone in a flash
Mr. Tealeaf is two blocks away counting your cash

Stalkin' the flock all bad guys call it the same
Stalkin' the flock that's the name of the game
Sentimental value to them don't mean a hoot
When you're stalkin' the flock can't take a chance that they'll shoot

I guess you know that wolves hunt in packs
They feel safer 'cause a bear might have them on their backs
But out on the street it's a different thing
A thief takes a risk on his own and he keeps everything

A wolf finds a sheep just as easy as pie
It's the same on the streets where the stakes are high
When the wolf finds a kill the victim don't get a chance
Like the thief on the street don't give the rich guy a chance

Stalkin' the flock is what the bad guys call it
Stalkin' the flock they're hungry for your wallet
Muggin' and rollin' don't matter to them
When you're stalkin' the flock it works it out just the same

Stalkin' the flock all bad guys call it the same
Stalkin' the flock that's the name of the game
Sentimental value to them don't mean a hoot
When you're stalkin' the flock can't take a chance that they'll shoot

East of the Sun, West of the Moon

These clean bare feet could take me far
Take a whip to my back, take a knife to my heart
You can't hold me back, try and stop me now
I can't help myself, I don't know how

East of the sun, West of the moon
I would lie, I would cheat, even kill for you
East of the sun, West of the moon
I will run away with you

You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth
Oh you have no fears and you have no doubts
The moon and stars you could take with ease
You've got everything, including me

East of the sun, West of the moon
I would lie, I would cheat, even kill for you
East of the sun, West of the moon
I will run away with you

Cross my heart and hope to die
I want you bad, now I can't lie

East of the sun, West of the moon
I would lie, I would cheat, even kill for you
East of the sun, West of the moon
I will run away with you

The Fine Line

It's a cold silent warning
I'll be a wreck in the morning
I lay in my bed, the wheels turn in my head
I can't turn it off, these consuming thoughts
Are visions of you in shades of deep blue

I walk the fine line between love and hate
I walk the fine line between Heaven and Hell's gate
I walk the fine line between pleasure and pain

I do way too much dreaming
For all the wrong reasons
No faults I'll find because love is blind
You're my obsession in my deepest confession
If that ain't enough I'll sign it in blood

I walk the fine line between love and hate
I walk the fine line between Heaven and Hell's gate
I walk the fine line between pleasure and pain

The Parting Glass

The Parting Glass
Traditional/Public Domain

Of all the money that I ere I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be to you all

Fill to me the parting glass
And drink to health and happy thoughts
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

Of all comrades that ere I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all sweethearts I've ever had
They wish me one more day to stay
Since it fell into my lot
That I should go and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

Since it fell into my lot
That I should go and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

So fill to me the parting glass
And drink to health and happy thoughts
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

1) I saw your face in the news today …… again
Just like yesterday and the day before
Over and over again
Why should I care, why should I be concerned
I wish you would just go away … just go away

CHORUS: Hey you train wreck girl
Your life is one big party spinning out of control ……

2) Do you watch the news, do you see people suffer
Do you care, do you feel or just wish it away
You just hang your dirty underwear for everyone to see
In the online news and every day on network TV …
Ah Please … you’re killing me

CHORUS: Hey you train wreck girl
Your life is one big party spinning out of control ……
Hey you train wreck girl
Every little girl adores you all around the world ……

BRIDGE: So misunderstood, girl exploited by Hollywood ……

3) You got too much money and you don’t have a clue
What it’s like to be without
Should I light a candle, should I pray for you
Please grow up and stop hurting yourself
I don’t feel sorry for you

CHORUS

Hey you train wreck girl
Your life is one big party spinning out of control ……
Hey you train wreck girl
Every little girl adores you all around the world ……
Hey you train wreck girl
Hey you train wreck girl ……
Nobody no longer wants to do you

CHORUS: Every little snowflake has a shape of its own
Some like stars or a perfect full moon
And tonight I’ll hold my hand out to catch a few
Here’s a heart shaped snowflake I have captured just for you

1. If wishes were like cookies hanging from a Christmas tree
I’d take a bite and I’d make a wish for you
And I’d put it in box tied up with a big red bow
And I’ll be waiting for you under the mistletoe

CHORUS

2. I hope you’re keeping happy and I hope you’re keeping warm
And I hoping that you’ll be with me
Here in front of the fire with our glasses raised
Drinking to each other and better days

CHORUS

3. Here’s a toast to your good fortune, here’s a toast to your good health
Here’s a toast to peace on Earth
And here’s a toast to your loved ones wherever they might be
And here’s a toast to you, Baby, and here’s a toast to me

CHORUS

1. There is a single mother living down the block
She takes the bus to work, sometimes she has to walk
She has three small children, a girl and two boys
They don’t get enough to eat and play with broken toys

CHORUS: Bring out the candles and bask in the light
Of a warm cozy fire place on cold winter nights
And dream of snow fairies and bright Christmas trees
And may a choir of sweet angels sing you to sleep

2. Every time you eat a chocolate from a ten pound box
Remember the homeless man with holes in his socks
His name is Ol’ Jarhead and he carries a tin cup
Asking for your spare change or anything you got

CHORUS

3. Think about the new stuff you just bought but you don’t need
And think about the people who have lost everything
Open up your pocketbook and break your penny jar
And you will feel something like love growing in your heart

CHORUS: Bring out the candles and bask in the light
Of a warm cozy fire place on cold winter nights
And dream of snow fairies and bright Christmas trees
And may a choir of sweet angels sing you to sleep

Bring out the candles and bask in the light
Of a warm cozy fire place on cold winter nights
And dream of snow fairies and bright Christmas trees
And may a choir of sweet angels sing you to sleep
