"Bees Knees (Community News Article)"

Bees Knees Kids Show is the brain child of Buster Stiggs who recorded the number one Australasian song “Counting the Beat’’ while in the Swingers. A recent parent Buster has turned his talent to creating a kids show. The live show is based around the themes from the songs, that promote healthy life styles and attitudes like Walking Bus, Fruit is Fun, Water, Best Friends, and Off to the Beach in a fun way and audience participation songs like Wannabee Song, Boogie Board Boogie, Tigers Bears and Lions that really get the audience involved.
From eighty performers from the initial audition, and after rigorous rehearsals and workshops 15 year old Samantha Robb and 11 year old Zarina Guy were chosen to star in the show. A human size bee called Humble Bumble completes the line up. They all sing and dance.
Samantha has theatre experience in nine productions and has acted in the TV series "The Shark Net". She attends John Curtin College of the Arts where she is in the specialist Drama program. She loves to perform and has studied singing, dancing and drama for five years with Stagecoach Theatre Arts School. A competent gymnast, she has won many first place awards for her floor routines. Samantha is an intensely creative person and has contributed costume, set design,
choreography, songs and script ideas to the show. Samantha is the Host of the Show where her comedy routines, audience banter and acrobatic skills link the songs together.
Zarina (Zazi) was born in Florida, U.S.A. she then travelled with her family to the U.K., N.Z., Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia before settling in Australia where she has lived for seven years. At the age of two and a half Zarina walked up onto a stage voluntarily to sing a song
and won first prize. At three and a half she had a role in a movie in Malaysia and learnt all the lines in Arabic and Malay. Zarina has appeared in TV commercials, Johnny Young Talent Time, the Carine Choir, Stars Performance Group and is representing WA in the national wrestling Championships in Adelaide in late September. Zarina's hobbies are WWE and "RAW" wrestling and riding her motor cross motorbike. She has contributed songs and choreography ideas to the show.
“The Walking Bus” has been chosen as the theme song for the International iwalk Organization who conduct the Walk To School Week October 3rd to 7th to be held in 36 different countries.
QUOTE from International iwalk Steering Committee Chairman, Robert Smith, UK“What a fantastic song! We'd love to put it on the IWALK website for children to download. You've really captured the sound that young people will respond to today. Congratulations.” r.smith@dorsetcc.gov.uk
The song co written by 14 year old Samantha Robb and sung by 11 year old Zarina Guy is the Bees Knees Kids Show’s way of contributing to a very worthwhile organization whose program has grown from humble beginnings in 1994, with only a few schools in the UK participating, to having 3,000,000 kids world wide join in last year.
Gauging from everyone’s’ responses to the song so far it is possible that by this time next year it may be used in all 36 countries to promote the iwalk organization and its ongoing annual events making a real difference to the lives of millions of school age kids internationally. Vichealth from the Victorian state government and EECA from the NZ government have already expressed their interest to use the song to promote the "International Walk to School" program. ABCKids have offered to be publishers to their soon to be released first CD. Amrap will distribute the song the over 50 radio stations nationally when the song is released in October 2006.

“What a fantastic song! We'd love to put it on the IWALK website for children to download. You've

The song has a unique, contemporary beat driven, melodic sound. The lyrics are joyous, uplifting, and accessible.

The walk to school program helps cuts car congestion and polluting car emissions by implementing a plan to have children walk to school in groups. Two volunteer parents supervise each group. The results are beneficial on many different levels. It gives children, regular exercise and road safety training. It helps develop children’s’ social skills and psychological well being by having them be involved in a healthy regular activity with other children. We liberate our streets by the having people using them for what they were designed for. Our car-based society has overlooked the obvious. Humans are designed to walk. We want to give the streets back to the pedestrians so that our kids can enjoy their environment not just drive by it.

The Bees Knees Kids Show are donating copies of the Walking Bus CD to 30 schools in Perth taking part in the iwalk program. They would like to donate to all schools to raise awareness of the iwalk program.

Buster started writing songs in 1976 with Neil Finn and also played drums and wrote songs on The Models albums Cut Lunch and Local &/or General.
He was drummer and manager for NZ punk rock legends Suburban Reptiles who are credited with starting the Indi scene in NZ.

"Never underestimate the intelligence of children"

Over 80 applicants were auditioned and put through exhausting workshops that challenged their ability to project a unique character, as well as being able to sing, dance, improvise in front of a camera, act, do comedy, record in a professional studio and write songs.
