Beg for Justice

Beg for Justice

BandFolkBluegrass

"Beg For Justice" started out as an accustic folk rock group with 3 members. They are currently playing Bluegrass, Old Time and Country tunes with an occasional foray into folk, rock or raggae just to keep it interesting. "Beg For Justice" is a welcome addition to any type of venue.

Biography

Beg for Justice was founded in 2008 by Joe Morales, Nate Starke, and Jeremy Peterson. The band’s intention was to play acoustic folk rock, but instead took a different path. Shortly after, they switched to an array of bluegrass, folk, and an occasional mix of their own music. The band played the local club circuit for about a year. Although the band seemed to get along with each other, the styles of music tended to differ. After the band went their separate ways, Jeremy and Joe decided they wanted to play the new style of music. After hearing and seeing several different artists perform, Joe and Jeremy recruited an upright basest, a fiddle player, a banjo/guitar player, and another guitar player. Little did the group know, Joe was planning to move to Utah with the intentions of keeping the band alive. The band seemed to work well with one and other. Joe gradually worked them into the sets as days went by. Since everyone was musically educated, the members knew how and what they were doing. Upon Joe’s departure, the band promised to continue to perform high energy concerts staying “true to the roots” of music. Beg for Justices’ main influences are Old Crow Medicine Show, Trampled by Turtles, and Ricky Skaggs.
Beg for Justice takes pride in being unlike a “typical rock cover band”. They keep the crowd interested with their improvisation and driving rhythm. Their up beat tempo drives the crowd for more.

Drinkin Town

Written By: Justin Gehrke

Open a bottle n pass it around, We'll drink till we're sober then role into town

No shoes on our feet, no money in hand, but it doesn't matter we'll grab what we can

Weekend comes and there's nothing to do, we'll all meet down at the local saloon

Gather our drinks as we all sing along to that same old replayed one hit wonder rock song

We make our corn liqueur we make our own brew, we'll put it in a mason jar and sell it to you

No tax on this stuff it's the best hooch in town one drop on your tongue boy you'll drop to the ground.

No tellin where we'll go, just give it some time.

I'm sure we'll meet again some day...further on down the line.

Raise a Ruckus

Written By: Old Crow Medicine show

Well well well

Chorus:
Come along little children come along
While the moon is shining bright
Now get on board going down the river float
We gonna raise a ruckus tonight

Well my old mistress promised me
Raise a ruckus tonight
That when she died she'd set me free
Raise a ruckus tonight
Well she lived so long that her head got bald
Raise a ruckus tonight
I finally had to kill her with a white oak maul

Well well well

(Chorus)

Well our old lady gets mad at me
Raise a ruckus tonight
When I won't drink at the India tea
Raise a ruckus tonight
Well now she is good and then she is bad
Raise a ruckus tonight
Boys she's evil like a devil when she gets mad

Well

(Chorus)

Well Raise a ruckus tonight
Raise a ruckus tonight
Now we gonna raise a ruckus tonight
Raise a ruckus tonight

Well well well

(Chorus)

Well raise a ruckus, raise a ruckus
Raise a ruckus tonight
Get on board going down the river float
We gonna raise a ruckus tonight

You Ain't Goin' No Where

Written By: Bob Dylan

Clouds so swift
Rain won't lift
Gate won't close
Railings froze
Get your mind off wintertime
You ain't goin' nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day
My bride's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

I don't care
How many letters they sent
Morning came and morning went
Pick up your money
And pack up your tent
You ain't goin' nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day
My bride's gonna come

Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

Buy me a flute
And a gun that shoots
Tailgates and substitutes
Strap yourself
To the tree with roots
You ain't goin' nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day
My bride's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

Genghis Khan
He could not keep
All his kings
Supplied with sleep
We'll climb that hill no matter how steep
When we get up to it
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day
My bride's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

Blue Moon Of Kentucky

Written By: Bill Monroe

Blue moon of Kentucky, keep on shining
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue
Blue moon of Kentucky, keep on shining
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue
It was on one moonlight night
Stars shining bright
Whisper on high
Love said goodbye
Blue moon of Kentucky keep on shining
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue

(As released by Patsy Cline, August 5, 1963)

I said blue moon of Kentucky, keep on a-shinin'
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue
Blue moon of Kentucky, keep on a-shinin'
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue

It was on one moonlit night, stars shinin' bright
Whispered on high, love said goodbye

I said blue moon of Kentucky, keep on a-shinin'
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue

Blue moon of Kentucky, keep on a-shinin'
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue
Blue moon of Kentucky, keep on a-shinin'
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue

Well, it was on one moonlit night, stars shinin' bright
Whispered on high, your lover said goodbye
I said blue moon of Kentucky, keep on a-shinin'
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue
Left me blue
Left me blue
Left me blue

Wreck of the Old 97

Written By: Flatt and Scruggs

Well they gave him his orders at Monroe Virginia
Saying Steve you're way behind time
This is not 38 but it's old 97 you must put her into Spencer on time
Well he turned around and said to his fireman shovel in a little more coal
And when we cross this big White Mountain we'll watch old 97 roll
[ dobro ]
It's a mighty rough road from Lynchburg to Danville and a line on a three mile grade
It's on that grade that he lost his airbrakes you see what a jump he made
They were goin' down the grade makin' 90 miles an hour
When his whistle broke into a scream
He was found in the wreck with his hand on the throttle
A scalded to death by the steam
[ fiddle ]
Then the telegram come to Washington city and this is how it read
The brave engineer that run old 97 he's a laying in old Danville dead
Now all you ladies we take a warning from this time now and learn
Never speak harsh words to your true loving husband

Three Little Birds

Written By: Bob Marley

Dont worry about a thing,
cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin: dont worry about a thing,
cause every little thing gonna be all right!

Rise up this mornin,
Smiled with the risin sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin, (this is my message to you-ou-ou:)

Singin: dont worry bout a thing,
cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin: dont worry (dont worry) bout a thing,
cause every little thing gonna be all right!

Rise up this mornin,
Smiled with the risin sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin, this is my message to you-ou-ou:

Singin: dont worry about a thing, worry about a thing, oh!
Every little thing gonna be all right. dont worry!
Singin: dont worry about a thing - I wont worry!
cause every little thing gonna be all right.

Singin: dont worry about a thing,
cause every little thing gonna be all right - I wont worry!
Singin: dont worry about a thing,
cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin: dont worry about a thing, oh no!
cause every little thing gonna be all right!

Angelina the Baker

Written By: Traditional

Angelina Baker

cho: Angelina Baker, Angelina Baker
Angelina Baker, Angelina Baker

Angelina baker lives on the village green
The way the i love her beats all to be seen

Angelina baker her age is 43
I gave her candy by the peck, but she won't marry me

She wont do the bakin', because she is too stout
She makes cookies by the peck and throws the coffe out

Thye last time i say her, it was at the county fair
Her daddy chased me halfway home and told me to stay there

Angelina taught me to weep, and she taught me to moan
Angelina taught me to weep and play on the old jawbone

Old Joe Clark

Written By: Traditional

Farethee well Old Joe Clark
Farethee well I say
Farethe well Old Joe Clark
I'm bound go go away

I will not go to Old Joe's house
I'll tell ya the reason why
Every floor in Old Joes's house
Is filled with chicken pie

Old Joe Clark he did take sick
And what do ya think ailed him?
He drank a churn of butter milk
And then his stomach failed him

I will not marry an old maid
And I'll tell ya the reason why
Her neck's so long and stringy boys
I'm afraid she'll never die

Old Joe Clark he did get drunk
And he sat down to his supper
He leaned over at the dinner table
And stoved his nose in the butter

Caroline

Written By: Traditional( O.C.M.S.)

They say you were born in St. Clare's Hospital
I say you were born up in the sky
You come floatin' down over New Orleans
To the sweet green levee on the riverside

And your voice chirped like old squeaky shoes
And mama always said we had nothin' to lose
And so we danced on the street corner

Oh Caroline
Heartbroken hard times, they never got us down
Walkin' the same line through every single southern town
Hand-in-hand, your arm 'round mine
Oh Caroline

Oh Caroline
Seen it all changin', watch it change some more
Seen hard times standin' right outside your door
Tell me gal, what's on your mind
Oh Caroline

*We were the gas house gang I'll be Ozzie Smith, you be Sara, my wife*We were the Cardinals' biggest fans
Turnin' flips like Ozzy Smith all through the night
Till we got traded away
To the red clay southern league up on the Georgia line

You'd be the pitcher and the catcher too
I'm the homerun king for his muscles grew
Gonna knock the cover off this time

Oh Caroline
Heartbroken hard times, they never got us down

These are different days
And the pace of the world has us thinkin' there's no time
To turn the other way
Take my hand, we'll walk on down the line

Though we may be a thousand miles apart
A brother and a sister have a single heart
And the beat don't stop for nothin'

Oh Caroline

Gold Watch and Chain

Written By: Traditional

Darling, how can I stay here without you
I have nothing to cheer my poor heart
This old world would seem sad, love, without you
Tell me now that we're never to part

I will pawn you my gold watch and chain, love
I will pawn you my gold diamond ring
I will pawn you this heart in my bosom
Only say that you'll love me again

Take back all the gifts you have given
But a ring and a lock of your hair
And a card with your picture upon it
It's a face that is false, but is fair

Tell me why that you do not love me
Tell me why that your smile is not bright
Tell me why you have grown so cold-hearted
Is there no kiss for me, love, tonight
