"Gods Of Music"

This is a sensuous ballad that is crafted with fine guitars and beautiful vocals by Beka Parkes. This Canadian vocalist has it going on, lifting stylistically from acts as diverse as Sheryl Crow and Natalie Merchant to create music with soul.

Instrumentally, this song just clicks. The guitars are light and moving, and the light drums keep everything in check, while Beka's voice just flows over it all like sweet sweet candy. The soul of this song shines through in every listen, that much is definitely clear.

And the lyrics, though simply
- Jonathon Sanders (on acoustic version of Something about You)

...Here is a typical small-town girl who just happened to be smiled upon by all the drama and music muses. Approaching the mike with outward assurance award winning singer/songwriter Beka performed to yet another enthusiastic audience this past Saturday as surprise guest performer, playing her self-penned songs with a sureness of diction, timing and pitch..... - Gerry Taylor

Debut cd up for public scrutiny in Fall 2009

Vancouver based singer/songwriter, Beka Parkes has always made music from her life. Gathering inspiration from something as simple as the rhythm of windshield wipers or as complex as a dying relationship, Beka's music is a reflection into her everyday.

From a musical family, relatives were members of the wildly popular grassroots band 'the Bunkhouse Boys,' it was no surprise when Beka showed signs of talent at an early age, making music from whatever she could get her hands on. Receiving her first full sized guitar at the age of nine, Beka started writing songs with a maturity that at the same time both thrilled and terrified her parents. Most girls fill diaries with their inner musings, and tales of unrequited love; Beka writes soul-baring songs.

Winning top honors in a national songwriting competition at the age of 16, Beka enjoyed the spotlight, appearing a number of television and radio programs. Through these guest spots, her cheeky, good nature led to a second career behind the mike of her own radio program, as well as lending her vocals to many commercial projects.

Honing her songwriting and singing skills with a number of projects in recent years, Beka has discovered her comfort zone as an artist. "I just stopped trying to be what people wanted me to be, and just was who I am." She says, "Things fell into place."

Beka has just wrapped up writing and is currently recording a full length cd of uk inspired pop/rock to be released Fall 2009.
