Bio

The Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra is founded in 2001 in Belgrade, Serbia. One of the founders was trombonist Ljubomir Matijaca (1936.) who was one of the first people that played dixieland in this country, and remained in that style all his life, teaching younger musicians to play and keeping this old musical style alive in this country. Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra continues this mission to this day.
This is a unique band in this country, with a lot of performing and recording (four albums) experience. We performed in various clubs, theatres and jazz festivals in Serbia and other European countries (Sweden, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria etc.).
Our influences are: Louis Armstrong, Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Sidney Bechet, Kid Ory, Gene Krupa, Jack Teagarden, Louis Prima, Dutch Swing College Band...
The band is consisted of 8 people (trumpet, clarinet, trombone, piano, banjo, bass, drums and singer). We have classic dixieland jazz repertoire (standards), but we also play pop tunes and Serbian folk and traditional songs, arraged in dixieland manner. We are currently working on new album, which will be consisted of only Serbian folk songs arranged in dixieland style. So this is the thing that sets us apart from other similar bands, besides the unique sound of the band which is contributed by individual influences of each band member.
