"Stark Magazine's Review of Bella Watt's 2008 album"

The Mirror Test is not a light cheery affair. It's dark and rich with detail and texture. While at times recalling Radiohead, Bella Watt do well to forge their own sound -- employing shoegazey guitars, intricate-rhythmic patterns and flashes of hope in lyrics thick with imagery and emotion. The Mirror Test is a strong second effort from a band that works hard on their craft and their product. It's clear that they will only give you their best and in a market full of half-hearted releases, that's everything a consumer could ask for.

"Deli Magazine's Review of Bella Watt's live show"

By this point I could pretty much taste it but when Bella Watt took the stage they exuded a freshness only a young band could. A male and female vocal trade-off topped atypical grooves spiked with psychedelia and the result was sufficiently hypnotizing, building a measured, spacey atmosphere. The haunting hymnal that was their last song [Ambivalencia] teased some truly poignant moments to come in this band's career.”

Bio

Bella Watt formed in the summer of 2006 by Aaron Argon and Itai Sol. They spent the year writing, recording and producing their first effort, the EP, "To Recover What Has Been". Inspired by Homer's Odyssey and musically by Blonde Redhead, Mogwai, Calla, Elliott Smith and others it was full of musical landscapes full of lush guitars, soaring melodies and driving rhythms.

Their writing style pays close attention to dynamic, tone and purpose. Their guitar style is a unique mix of interesting chord voicings, lead lines and organized meanders. Comprising the rhythm section are Jeff Arancherry on bass guitar and Ryan Zuccheri on drums. The two, locked together, make an energetic live act.

In November 2008 Bella Watt released their second record, the full-length, "The Mirror Test". With this effort, the group developed their sound with more driving songs, increased melody and harmony, broader instrumentation and a bolder message.

Itai's lyrics are about what we consider truth and how we express it; combining ancient literature with modern scientific themes to address these questions and poke holes in our social norms. Sharing lead vocals with Itai is Connie Ha. Her beautifully haunting voice adding a depth to the texture of the music as it interacts with Itai's.

Bella Watt will play throughout 2009 in support of "The Mirror Test".
