As an encore, the quartet offered a coolly seductive rendition of Serge Gainsbourg's Intoxicated Man. "..Swinging, joyous, up-beat... a singular feeling of celebration ...the songs unfold as if in a post-modern cabaret. On stage, as well as their repertoire of new songs, they add some carefully chosen covers , such as "Don’t Smoke In Bed", a song from the 30s, and "Intoxicated Man by Serge Gainsbourg". Elegant delights… - RFI - BERTRAND DICALE
IT TOOK Belle du Berry two years to construct a musical identity for herself outside Paris Combo (the French cabaret-pop act that brought her international acclaim), but only two minutes to win over the audience at the Recital Centre on Wednesday. (...) The rapport between du Berry and Lewis... was palpable, the pair matching melodic and rhythmic phrases as Lewis moved deftly between piano and electric keyboards (often with a deliciously retro organ sound). Lewis also provided some superb solos on trumpet and flugelhorn, with buoyant support from Denis Henault-Parizel (on bass and guitar) and Remy Kaprielan (drums). - Melbourne Age - Jessica Nicolas -
" Berry is so expressive - her voice conveying a whole palette of emotions ... (she) shares the Salon with bass player and guitarist Denis Henault-Parizel, drummer Remy Kaprielan and her multi-talented Australian partner, David Lewis, whose skills include playing racy jazz piano and blowing trumpet (beautifully) under water. - Melbourne Herald Sun - Simon Plant
"Belle du Berry is a mistress of storytelling. She spins the patter of her lyrics with a charming twinkle in her eye, a bewitching intellect and a voice that seduces like a gentle kiss." - Arts Hub by Xenia Hanusiak
