Formed by Richard Armstrong and David Kalef as a Duo and later joined by Geoff McPeak, Erik Wiancko and Kaleb Sepa, The Belle Jars are the underground indie nomads of Toronto's west end. The line-up of the band has changed since its inception in the early 90s, allowing the sound of The Belle Jars to adapt, but there exists a singular constant...the ability to stagger with style. Their music is often raw, frequently fast and always performed on their own terms. The band incorporates choppy, punk-adjacent rhythms with shimmering touches of glam-rock, but at the core of the songs is an almost naive simplicity and an ethos of 'feel' before 'chops'. Catchy melodies and beautiful electric swells are as much a calling card for The B.J's as the drunken debauchery and broken glass. Their latest CD release, 'Star Treatment' was recorded at the Kave Recording Studio with the band producing alongside Paul Tedeschini. The songs on 'Star Treatment' find the band adding elements of folk and country into their pop-rock sound, giving the album all the frenetic, late night elegance of an eclectic street party gone horribly right.
