"New Music Critiques"

Singer-Songwriter Belle Rousse shows less-is-more confidence in her work, as on “Flying Lights,” a song that’s mostly just ukulele and her voice, whose escalating range benefits from a tasteful use of echo. The rocked-up, mid-tempo “IDKU” oozes with vintage guitar tone and conveys a woman haunted by a soured relationship. Rousse mines the depths of her vision with “Deep Blue,” which conjures a mysterious, subaqueous realm. In the end, each of these tracks stands as an intriguing blueprint for a vision that has yet to be fully realized. - Music Connection Magazine - January 2014

"Belle Rousse"

Los Angeles has long been a Mecca for attracting talent from all parts of the country, particularly in the world of entertainment. Belle Rousse, one of our new bright lights, fits the profile perfectly, hailing from the South and now spreading her magic around LA and Hollywood. Often appearing with her musical partner Nehi Thompson – a very talented guitarist and singer in his own right – this charming lady is an act worth catching if she comes your way.

In Belle Rousse we have a young woman of great optimism and talent, with a boundless enthusiasm for life. Or, as she would put it, “expressionate” – both expressive and passionate. “My vision and cause is to set people’s hearts on fire and catch people’s imaginations,” says Belle. “I want to bring people’s hearts, spirits, and dreams back to life with my music.” In person, she is a can-do go-getter with a great smile, warm and friendly, and eager to engage others and share her music and her ideas.

If you can’t catch one of her live shows, you can hear Belle Rousse’s music uploaded on either her Bandcamp or YouTube pages. Belle covers a range of styles from folk blues to indie rock to even the occasional ethereal ballad. Although she covers standards quite well (“I’d Rather Go Blind,” “How High the Moon”), her own songwriting probably delivers the widest range of moods and unleashes the most personal creativity. In any case, she is a lot of fun to watch and a joy to hear in concert or via online streaming. Don’t miss her when she comes to a place near you. - John's Cool Little Music Blog

"Fall In Love With New Music: Belle Rousse"

Welcome "Fall In Love With New Music" month! To start this exciting new project, I am happy to introduce the amazingly talented Belle Rousse to you all. Where exactly did this indie/pop-rock singer get her interesting stage name? "I didn't come up with the name. Some say it came from a country in Russia and that I am a Russian fugitive, and some say some guy was hitting on me and I took it way too seriously." Belle answered when I questioned her catchy name. For Belle, her upbringing helped her become influenced by music. "I was raised in both Georgia and Alabama so my style has a little bit of country in it. I was also in a gospel choir in Alabama, which is where I got my soul. So even though I write this indie pop/alternative music is has a little twang and a little soul. I have also always been a total book worm and lover of poetry so that really shaped the way I tell stories through my songs." She also added, "My earliest memories are of me walking around my house singing all the time. I've always known that this is what I would do. I joined my first band in the second grade. We were an R&B girls trio that did concerts on the playground."

As for musical influences, Belle Rousse is very diverse! Some of her musicial influences include No Doubt, Pearl Jam, Queen, Etta James, Bjork and Avril Lavigne but, if she had a choice to duet with anyone she'd definitely pick Elvis Presley! She says, "I love everything strange yet beautiful. That's what inspired me the most."

As any musician should be, Belle Rousse is very humbled by her career. "I couldn't have done anything without the friends and listeners who have supported me and believed in me. It's all because of them!"

Belle has an EP that should be out soon, and is entitled "Expressionate", which is how she describes her music. "It's a word I made up meaning expressive and passionate." She explained. I'm sure it will be a huge success!

"REVIEWS IN REAL-TIME: THE SHANE SONG BY BELLE ROUSSE"

A good mark of a successful song, no matter the level of success, is the “catchiness” of the song and the ability to be embedded in your head for a long period of time, making it seemingly impossible to get out. That is what the upcoming single by Belle Rousse, “The Shane Song”, does. We here at the Airspeaker Podcast were given the honor and opportunity to preview the track before it’s official release on September 10th, 2014 and so far it has not left my head.

With it’s infectious and poppy beats, this is a fun summer tune for your summer parties or cruising down the coast. It does have a certain Weezer-esc quality to it in which it has a simplistic approach lyrically but musically it still delivers a fun time. Included in the song is a question asking what it is about this boy Shane that makes him “so mother-fucking cool”. Leave it to a girl from Alabama to make California style tune.

Belle is a past, and hopefully a returning, guest on the Airspeaker Podcast who made her debut with an interview and with the song “IDKU” from the E.P. “Expressionate” on Episode #36 of the podcast.

So in summary, I was already a fan of her music – discovering her music through her Twitter – and her inventive versions of cover songs, so I wasn’t surprised that i would like this song. With “Speakers” being our version of stars, I give this song 4 out of 5 speakers. I gave this track a few listens and after every listen it just grew and grew on me. I’m interested to see what you all think of this song. I am also interested to see what more she has in store for us in the form of an upcoming album and beyond. - Ed Gomez
