Discography

BellonMaceiras Quinteto evolved naturally out of the BellonMaceiras Duo in 2007. This new group brings us closer to a fusion between new folk and world music in which improvisation plays a very important role. The bagpipes and the accordion, together with the double bass, guitar, drums and saxophone take us on a musical journey in which diverse styles and rhythms are complemented by a wide variety of original compositions. Fusion is the essence of BellonMaceiras Quintets identity, and the musical contribution of each instrument is what defines the groups distinctive styles and rhythms. The musicians are encouraged express themselves and are free from the shackles of stylistic servitude. From their fondness for combining musical styles and rhythms in a single piece of music they have coined the term espicho inserting clips of well-known melodies into their own compositions. The bagpipe is used in innovative ways to interpret music styles as diverse as tango, swing, muieira, blues, habanera, jazz, samba and the French waltzjust as in their recorded music, dont expect to hear a single musical genre or style during their live concerts.

Enjoy the music and....Welcome to folkfusion!

Bio

In 2007, BellonMaceiras Quintet evolved naturally out of BellonMaceiras Duo. This new group brings us closer to a fusion between new folk and world music in which improvisation plays a very important role. The bagpipes and the accordion, together with the double bass, guitar, drums and saxophone take us on a musical journey in which diverse styles and rhythms are complemented by a wide variety of original compositions.

Fusion is the essence of BellonMaceiras Quintets identity, and the musical contribution of each instrument defines the groups distinctive styles and rhythms. The musicians are free to express themselves and are not confined by rigid stylistic boundaries. From their fondness for combining musical styles and rhythms in a single piece of music they have coined the term espicho inserting clips of well-known melodies into their own compositions.

In their last album (Folkfusion, 2010) the bagpipe is used in innovative ways to interpret musical styles as diverse as tango, swing, muneira, blues, habanera, jazz, samba and the French waltz. They have showcased this inventive music in various parts of Europe, such as Lorient (Brittany, France), Brussels (Belgium), Colfiorito (Italy), Viana do Castelo (Portugal), as well as all over Galicia on the most prestigious stages. In 2011 they are selected by AIE (Artistas e Intrepretes de Espaa) to tour the Iberian Peninsula from Zaragoza to Vitoria to Tuleda. One of the groups characteristics is the ability to adapt their music to any concert venue, from the most intimate acoustic concert in a small theater to large music festivals outdoors or in big auditoriums. This is a reflection of the universal nature of their music just as they experiment with various styles in their recorded music, their live concerts offer audience members the opportunity to enjoy their innovative approach to music.
