Bells in Cairo is probably the first band ever assembled solely via the Craig's List missed connections page. When keyboardist Jenessa Kornaker and drummer Don Lavis, both members of the Buffalo band Ice Cream Social, moved to New York, they posted ads on Craig's List "looking for electro indie band." After weeding through dozens of hopeless replies, they finally found their lead singer, Donny Dietz, who wrote because he
was hoping to play in a band with another Don. After a few months of practicing in Jenessa's apartment using a digital drum pad, the band finally moved into a practice space and posted an ad looking for a bassist. The result was Ben Thomas, who joined the band in December 2009, bringing an entire guitar store full of vintage equipment along with his bass skills.
