Halo Tex-Hex Punk Floyd Sad-Bastard Music

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
-Robert Frost.

It's easy to learn how to play an instrument. It's easy to seek out like-minded people and play together. It's easy to uphold tradition and continue on a musical path whose trails have been cleared, paved, and beset with the neon lights of familiarity. True to their idiosyncrasies, Seattle band Below Blackstar chooses instead to take a road less traveled.

Blending a wide array of influences Below Blackstar is constantly branded with a myriad labels: post rock, art rock, progressive, goth rock, shoegaze, and alternative. Though the group shares attributes of all of these subgenres, none are all-encompassing, formulating the idea of "Halo Tex-Hex Punk Floyd Sad-bastard Music". The group incorporates a trio of talented guitarists whose interplay can rise to the heavens or sink to the depths, and a groove-oriented yet pulverizing rhythm section that is firmly in the driver's seat. Alternating between male and female vocals, the lyrical narrative conveys the energy and confusion of the duality of the human condition.

The band's long-awaited debut album, Under a Concrete Sky, was released in 2014, accompanied by a frenetic performance that has become the standard for this rising star. Constantly seeking to outdo themselves, Below Blackstar relishes evolution, ultimately creating a sense of harmony within the dissonance of the spirit.
