With their latest CD, Incomplete Thoughts, Below Average Productions demonstrates their unique sound and untouchable passion for creative musical elements. Below Average Productions began when four high school friends combined their talent and passion for music back in 1998. Since then, Below Average has undergone extraordinary changes and evolved into the musically colaborated entity that they are today.
As for the band members themselves:
A gentle soul, and the oldest of the group, Sean is definitely a major part of BAP’s unique sound. With influences from drum and bass, to experimental and free jazz, he is quickly defining himself as a musically diverse bassist. Out of the four Sean has the most formal training in classical music, but definitely strays the furthest in his pursuit towards a different sound. If there is any cd in his collection that you recognize, consider yourself lucky. Sean’s solid low tones and bouncing harmonies fill in the gaps, and provide metric intensity for Todd's percussive atmosphere.
Most of Travis’ influences stem from the early 90’s rock scene, yet with an open mind and a diverse knowledge of his weapon (guitar) he is pushing the envelope daily. Much like Sean, Travis’ pursuit of saving the world is heard in his style, with gut wrenching minor chords, hyped up choruses, and soaring bridges. His rhythmic sculptures almost seem to throw out “a Call to action” that is audibly impossible to over look. If you can’t find Travis in the studio he is most likely dreaming up some new Below Average scheme that will aide in their inevitable world domination (in a good way).
Todd, the newly re-appointed drummer of Below Average has an ear and talent for flawless percussion. With his love of drumming and experience he is the perfect new addition to the band, bringing back the solid oneness the group possesses.
As a vocalist, Brian is able to impress live audiences with his range and precision, as well as his kinetic stage presence; then turn around and do the same with his blues driven guitar work. His influences help elevate BAP’s instrumental intentions to a level of solid musical integrity, only surpassed by his undying passion for soul driven music. Although seemingly playful and light hearted, Brian’s lyrics weave a tapestry of heartfelt emotion that is intertwined with personal experiences and lessons learned. Brian will continue to ride the crest of the wave that is the Below Average music factory, and push the group towards a solid groove. A multi-talented musician, he has always steered towards singing catchy hooks with serious undertones.
