Biography

BENAIAH

The biblical name Benaiah comes from a musician and warrior during King David's reign. It is also a Hebrew name meaning "Built by God."As the new millennium matures, a group of talented artists named Benaiah, delivering roots music and lovers rock, has reappeared on the music scene.

The talented and versatile Benaiah band is a musical and vocal group. On lead vocals is Joseph Benaiah, skillfully supported with harmonies by Renita 'Nilajah' Emanuel. Although many may still be unfamiliar with their work, Benaiah is no stranger to the world of music. They have four albums released to their credit: We Nah Give Up, Children of Israel, Time Eternal and their current album, The New Beginning, produced by the maestro, Dean Frasier, who has been referred to as the Quincy Jones of Reggae Music. Also featured on the album in combination styles are reggae messenger Lucuiano, on a cover of Dennis Brown's "Make Ends Meet", and Grammy-winner Carlton 'Bad Boy' Coffie, formerly of Inner Circle, on the track "Nothing New Under The Sun." Nilajah Emanuel steps up to the plate as lead

vocalist on "Take a Chance" and "Angel Of Mine".

The song "Once There Is Life" has just been released as a single and is supported by a colorful and vibrant video available on DVD. The selections are rhythmic, rich in texture with sultry horn arrangements; roots and culture lyrics and a touch of lovers rock. Other songs that stand out are "Travelling", "Thinking I'ts Safe", "True Love", a cover of Bob Marley's "Who the Cap Fit", "Own Two Feet" and "Never Felt Like This". The album is marketed by Sphinx Record Company.

Benaiah has traveled all over the world, from Japan to Brazil, from Europe to Canada and across the USA working as a show band and backing band. They have accompanied artists such as Percy Sledge, The Delfonics, Freddie McGregor, Michael Rose, Dean Frasier, Marcia Griffiths and The Mighty Diamonds, among others. In 1994, Benaiah won an award for "The Best Live Band in Miami. And in 1999 the group was voted "Best Regae Band in Miami" by The Miami New Times -news paper. Over the past few years, they have taken a hiatus from the road and gone back into the studio to refocus on their recording and performing career.

Now The New Beginning of Benaiah shines like a bright sunny day; the group is all fired up, with every reason to be hot like the sun. With the kind of experience and exposure they have rolled into this album and their new focus as an exclusive show band, watch out! If you get exposed, you are going to get a musical tan.
