Bio
Benandru come from the great British traditional of folk and pop music, seen through the prism of American blues and bluegrass.
Lead singer Ben comes from a musical family. His earliest memories are musicians, artists and poets performing at the Blackberry Hill commune in Horseley, in the Cotswolds, where he was brought up. Ben met Rufus, harmonica / mandolin, when they were one year olds, and they started Benandru together at 16 with a simple harmonica / voice combo. Their harmonies rock.
Dave, bass, joined Benandru after an impromptu jam in a puddle at Glastonbury. Ben and Ru were entertaining a group of friends when Dave strolled over, improvised a bass and speakers out of assorted bits and pieces, and jammed with them sitting in a puddle. Ed, drums, completed the line-up when he debuted at a News Years Eve gig in 2008, dressed as a shark.
The band have a huge range of influences from the Old Crow Medicine Show to the Grateful Dead to The Prodigy to Woodie Guthrie, via Gomez and Jurassic 5. While they do some unique covers, the band has a large repertoire of original songs.
