Benjamin K Brown is one of the most interesting musicians to come out in a long time.
Benjamin K Brown is one of the most interesting musicians to come out in a long time. He sings of love, death, salamandars, and gardens in which people can hear truths they may be unable to face.

His music is often based on literary references from published & soon to be published authors. He is one of the most versatile artists that I have encountered. His music ranges from Jimmy Buffet to Meatloaf, Stevie Ray Vaugn to your favorite artist. As a song writer, his fresh approach is sure to please...straight from the heart, but rarely sappy. He tells about life in his stories, like it happens. Real, believable and FUN. Keep an ear out for this guy and his band, they will find new and fresh ways to entertain you and make you love your life again! -

Songs designed to elicit emotions and tell stories through music are a specialty of Whisper Garden, both in their originals and in their eclectic selection of covers. Together, the band has well over one hundred years of musical experience. Ben Brown who provides vocals and guitar has a Masters in Music from the University of Kentucky. He has played in an amazing variety of bands over the past 25 years from Country to Salsa to Progressive Punk. Drummer Jim Corcoran received his Masters of Music from the University of Kentucky and teaches percussion at the University of the Cumberlands. Kim Herbert, editor of The Horse magazine, has been an amateur musician for many years and makes her first professional appearance with Whisper Garden. David Griffith has played bass with such illustrious bands as Summertime Blues, Cluster Duck, and Shtwsl (don’t ask). The band also features a rotating fifth wheel; a guest instrumentalist of professional caliber who adds color and class to the performance as well as a rare type of controlled indeterminacy: you’re never quite sure what might happen. This spot has been filled in the past by Nancy Clauter on oboe, Dave Clark on saxophone, and Joe Gierlach on dobro.

What do you get at a Whisper Garden show? The passion of blues and rock in a mildly macabre fashion; Fun and energy without all the noise; Straight forward music with an interesting twist; Thoughtful and thought provoking lyrics with a back beat; that’s Whisper Garden

Born in the wilds of Kentucky, Ben was given his first guitar at age 12 by an uncle who probably didn’t mean any harm. Ben grew up on a mix of John Denver, gospel, and the Doobie Brothers. High school choir, musical plays, and marching band left their own unique chisel marks on the mold of his musical character. He studied voice and music education at Morehead State University, then received a Masters in Music Education from the University of Kentucky, which lead to a 15-year stint of shaping young minds in the public schools. The bands in which he’s played through the last 28 years are difficult to count, but include the usual variety dance bands (he’s played lots of receptions and barmitzvas), White Johnny and the Spine Poodles (Prog-punk), East 60 (country), and Fuego Latino (Latin explosion). Currently he performs with Whisper Garden (darkly literary blues), as well as solo with acoustic guitar. These days he writes and records songs, with influence from storytellers such as John Hiatt and Jimmy Buffett. His passion is performing music that makes people think and feel good about it while they sing along.
