Bio

The Oslo-based metal band Benea Reach was started in 2003 by drummer Marco and vocalist Ilkka after the duo disbanded their previous project, the hardcore outfit Selfmindead. After recording their first demo, the band attracted interest from several labels. This led to the signing with Norwegian label Tabu Recordings and the recording of the debut album, Monument Bineothan, which was released in 2006. The band made an early statement by receiving a Norwegian Grammy nomination for their effort. After some changes in the line-up they followed up with their 2008 release, Alleviat, for which they received yet another Grammy nomination. After several tours in Scandinavia, Europe and a headlining tour in India, they have become an experienced and highly rated live-act. They have shared the stage with bands like Dillinger Escape Plan, Slipknot, Underoath, Bhayanak Maut, Zao and The Chariot to name a few. Having co-produced both albums and produced all three of their music videos themselves, with drummer Marco Storm doing direction, digital effects and post production, the band shows talent beyond just songwriting and performing. They are currently working on material for a third album, and also looking for a bigger label that can match their ambitions to reach international acknowledgement. The new material contains more melodic elements, both musically and vocally, without compromising their trademark heavy sound. The current lineup consists of Ilkka Viitasalo (vocals), Marco Storm (drums, programming), Martin Sivertsen (guitar), Mikael Wildén (bass), Andreas Berglihn (guitar, synthesizer), Alwin Nedrum (guitar, live samples, additional vocals) and also includes Joffe Myrvold (live lights) and Espen Høydalsvik (live sound).
